I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:42 pm by the chair John Wilkinson.
II. Approval of Minutes: Following a motion by Melissa Pifko and a second by Susan Reeves,
the May 2nd minutes were approved.
III. PRB Sub-Committee Updates:
• John gave an update on the Parkland Acquisition Sub-Committee's work. The Committee made
contact with the landowner. It is an estate situation. They expect to make contact again at the end
of July.
• There was no update on the Program Planning Sub-Committee. Michelle Huth from Frost Bank is
interested in underwriting some of the Fourth of July Parade and pool party, and water misting
machines were discussed to use on the parade route
• The Customer Service Sub-Committee had their first meeting on June 12 and discussed the idea of a
customer service secret shopper. They also discussed the idea of a West U Parks app.
• The Communications & Public Relations Sub-Committee has not met yet.
• The Facilities Sub-Committee had no updates; however, Tim mentioned that he is continuing to draft
the long-range plan and anticipates presenting it in September.
IV. Friends Overview: Leah Ragiel said that there was no report since the Friends Board is on hiatus
for the summer.
V. Board members Updates/Park Ambassador Reports:.
• Weir Park: Melissa noted that the trees had been removed and asked when the new trees would be
planted. Tim said that in November the trees would be planted to the South and West of the 5-12
year old play structure. Tim said that he was obtaining quotations for artificial shade structures like
those at the Rec Center Park.
• Huffington Park: Tim said that the Urban Forester said that it would not work to thin out the trees at
Huffington Park and to transplant them to Weir Park.
• Whitt Johnson Park: Leah noted that she rarely sees anyone in the Pavilion and wondered about the
feasibility of relocating it to allow more space for equipment.
VI. Staff Updates: Tim gave updates on the following:
• The Rec Center pool went out of service on Monday, June 11 at noon due to a motor failure. Repairs
were made and the pool will open on Thursday, June 14 at 5:00 am.
VII. New Business: None.
IX. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 6:54 pm..
The next meeting is scheduled for September 5, 2012 @ 6:30 pm in the conference room at the
WUP Recreation Center.
