Ragiel, Kristen Woiwode-Flores, David DeAnda, Sona West, Moya Varner & Melissa Pifko VISITOR; Councilman Dick Yehle Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:32 pm by the chair John Wilkinson. II. Approval of Minutes: Following a motion by Susan Reeves and a second by IC Kneale, the February 15t minutes were approved. III. PRB Sub-Committee Updates: • John gave an update on the Parkland Acquisition Sub-Committee's work. The committee has put together a package and is going to ask Council at a closed meeting on March 26th to consider establishment of an earmarked park fund for future park acquisitions. • Susan gave an update on the Program Planning Sub-Committee's work. Specifically, the committee is working on the upcoming Eggstravaganza. • Kristen gave an update on the Communications & Public Relations Sub-Committee's work. The sub-committee has not met yet, but will meet soon to discuss the results of the LERN Brochure Critique and how some of the recommendations can be implemented in future program guides. John suggested maybe looking into Yelp or other social media for communication and feedback. • JC gave an update on the Facilities Sub-Committee's work. The sub-committee met a couple of weeks ago and discussed the parks and what work had been done in each park. A goal is to develop a plan for each individual park. Also, it was decided that Whitt Johnson Park does not need a total update; instead it may be possible to powder coat the existing play structure. If there are leftover funds, it was suggested that Colonial Park have artificial turf installed before the tree root growth creates issues, rather than in the future as planned. Weir Park will have turf installed in 2 phases so that one side of the park will always be in use. Colonial Pool repairs are ongoing. Both are expected to be ready in April. IV. Friends Overview: Leah Ragiel gave a summary of the Friends Board meeting which took place earlier in the day. • Net results for the Park Lover's Ball were $320,000. • Fathers and Flashlights has been tentatively moved to October 6th. The chairs asked to raise the price for Fathers and Flashlights to $60 for adults and $50 for children. • The Weir Park turf upgrade was officially approved at cost (Friends $23k; City $40k). • The Friends Board would be open to long-term saving for further park acquisitions. • The Guild Girls have an upcoming event on March 29th at 6-9 at Peran & Scannell Jewelers. • The next Friends Board meeting will be on the second Wednesday of the month and then meetings will return to the first Wednesday of the month. V. Citizen's Comments: City Councilman, Dick Yehle, stated that the City Council will meet next Monday to revisit the 2012 goals that were set earlier. PRB comment was welcomed. VI. Board members Updates:. 0 Amy stated that she is still receiving complaints about Judson Park. It was recommended Parks and Recreation Board Minutes page 2 that when people have complaints they should write them down, along with name, address and phone and send them to the Park Department for discussion by the Board. • Melissa stated that Weir Park is getting heavy usage. • John stated that Friends is good and one of the few "quiet parks". He reported that rust on Whitt Johnson fences will be painted and playstructure is planned to be powdercoated. • Sona said Huffington is being used and all is well. • David said that the Rec Center is having some machine issues, but that there is usually a sign stating which machines are out of use. VII. New Business: There was no new business. VIII. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 7:24. The next meeting is scheduled for April 4, 2012 @ 6:30 pm in the conference room at the WUP Recreation Center.
