I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:32 pm by the chair John Wilkinson.
II. Approval of Minutes: Following a motion by Susan Reeves and a second by IC Kneale, the
February 1St minutes were approved.
III. PRB Sub-Committee Updates:
• John gave an update on the Parkland Acquisition Sub-Committee's work. The committee
has put together a package and is going to ask Council at a closed meeting on March 26th to
consider establishment of an earmarked park fund for future park acquisitions.
• Susan gave an update on the Program Planning Sub-Committee's work. Specifically, the
committee is working on the upcoming Eggstravaganza.
• Kristen gave an update on the Communications & Public Relations Sub-Committee's work.
The sub-committee has not met yet, but will meet soon to discuss the results of the LERN
Brochure Critique and how some of the recommendations can be implemented in future
program guides. John suggested maybe looking into Yelp or other social media for
communication and feedback.
• JC gave an update on the Facilities Sub-Committee's work. The sub-committee met a
couple of weeks ago and discussed the parks and what work had been done in each park. A
goal is to develop a plan for each individual park. Also, it was decided that Whitt Johnson
Park does not need a total update; instead it may be possible to powder coat the existing
play structure. If there are leftover funds, it was suggested that Colonial Park have artificial
turf installed before the tree root growth creates issues, rather than in the future as
planned. Weir Park will have turf installed in 2 phases so that one side of the park will
always be in use. Colonial Pool repairs are ongoing. Both are expected to be ready in April.
IV. Friends Overview: Leah Ragiel gave a summary of the Friends Board meeting which took
place earlier in the day.
• Net results for the Park Lover's Ball were $320,000.
• Fathers and Flashlights has been tentatively moved to October 6t". The chairs asked to
raise the price for Fathers and Flashlights to $60 for adults and $50 for children.
• The Weir Park turf upgrade was officially approved at cost (Friends $23k; City $40k).
• The Friends Board would be open to long-term saving for further park acquisitions.
• The Guild Girls have an upcoming event on March 29"' at 6-9 at Peran & Scannell Jewelers.
• The next Friends Board meeting will be on the second Wednesday of the month and then
meetings will return to the first Wednesday of the month.
