HomeMy WebLinkAboutFMinutes010412_Page_3Judson Park Redevelopment Update:
The project is scheduled for completion on Friday, January 6th.
We have afirm price of $5,200.00 for the cost of replacing the current "monkey bar"
system with a new "spinner" element and a new play feature.
Funding will need to be raised independently of Friends and City funds.
Whitt Johnson Park Redevelopment:
Staff has assessed the play elements and park equipment and determined that a
"wholesale" redevelopment of this park is not necessary.
We just upgraded the FIBAR safety base application and are budgeted to refresh the
decomposed granite trail this Spring.
Mayor's Chevron Houston Marathon Breakfast
Board members are invited to the Mayor's Chevron Houston Marathon Breakfast at City
Hall is Sunday, January 15th, 7:45 - 9:45am. This is great fun and an excellent place to
watch the elite runners and the rest of the marathon field.
Executive Director Report (Donna LaMond)
Stock Donation - As previously reported, we received our first ever request, as far as I
am aware of, to donate stock as payment for PLB. I worked with Frost Bank and set up a
brokerage account for us. The transfer of stock went through last week and we actually
made some money on the transaction. The donation was 40 shares of Apple stock and
the value at the time of the transfer was $16,167.73 AFTER a $29.95 commission
payment to Frost. Frost was wonderful to work with. As I mentioned at our last meeting,
I suggest that we consider putting the word out that we accept stock donations, as long as
we are careful about what we state that we accept, etc.
Deb Connelly is about to have us ready to start selling t-shirts and ornaments here at the
Rec Center. We should be set up within the next week. Thanks, Deb, for all the work in
inventorying, etc. We will have three different shirts on sale, I Love West U Parks, What
Happens in West U Stays in West U, and the golf shirts. The t-shirts are $10 each and
the golf shirts are $50 each. The ornaments are $10 each.
Last month I shared a letter with you from a Boy Scout who donated money to Friends
that he had left over from his Eagle Scout project. The scout is Chris Scheller and his
project involved upgrading and refurbishing the wooden play structures at Colonial Park.
We met yesterday and took some pictures and Heather will get a press release out with
photos this week.
Adjournment
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 12:11 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
