HomeMy WebLinkAboutFMinutes010412_Page_2"mock-ups" - pdfs of the pavers but this adds time to the installation process. We need to determine whether it is feasible to allow donors access or devise another method. The order form has been updated to reflect the new pavers at Judson Park 6x6s and 8x8s. I also added the paver size 12x12 for Friends Park. While the form is functional, and informative, it could benefit from a little "sprucing" up to increase its marketing potential. A "draft" of the form was shared with those in attendance. With the recent renovation of Judson, and plans to renovate Whitt Johnson, now is a good time to inventory. I plan to work with ProModular to get a firm count on what's available. Financial Report (Sue Hanna) See attached report. Park Lover's Ball (Courtney Archer and Anne Freeman) To date, we have reached $201,107 in underwriting and sponsorships. This morning PLB 2012 invitations were mailed and few seats remain available. This year's venue (Four Seasons Hotel) will seat more people than in the past, 560 vs. 530 last year. Another wine event is being planned for this month-end at the Houston Wine Merchant to encourage donation of additional wine for the "Wine Pull." Tuesday, January 10 is the deadline for auction items. Lodging for 2 couples/3nights in Napa, CA is still needed. This year the auction will include "rights to pick of the litter" from 3 different dog breeds rather than a puppy. Parks and Recreation (Tim O'Connor) Town Center Tree Replacement Project: The City has partnered with Tri-Sports and the West University Elementary PTO in funding the removal of eight (8) Live Oak Trees and replacing six (6) of those trees with Mexican Monterrey Oak Trees. City: $17K, Tri-Sports: $8K and WUE-PTO: $5K Total Project Budget: $30K Specifically the removal of two (2) trees along Auden south of the intersection of Amherst and the removal of six (6) trees along University east of Auden to the WUE Faculty Parking Lot. Trees are being removed due to the fact that they are at the end of their useful life and pose a safety threat to pedestrians and vehicles. Causes: Construction compression of soil around the trees, age and drought. The replacement trees are substantial in size and will provide immediate shade and aesthetic relief. The trees being planted are approximately 20' in height involve an 18% 20' canopy and are approximately 6-8 inches in diameter. The Mexican Monterrey Oaks look very similar to Live Oaks, are drought & disease resistant and will adapt quite well to the existing soil. The project is expected to be completed no later than Friday, January 20, 2012. There are other Live Oaks on Auden and University that will need to be removed and replaced in the future. The Forester is keeping a close eye on the tree stock on the WUE Campus and will be developing a comprehensive removal and replacement plan. Future funding will in all probability will be secured through a volunteer fundraising initiative.
