Captured below are my mental notes of good ideas offered by Board members during the tour. Please
let me know any omissions or errors and we can discuss them further at the next board meeting and
then assign to sub-committees, if they are felt to have merit.
WUP Recreation Center:
Option exists to extend the jogging track along the abandoned pipeline route between Holcombe and
Bissonnet (and up to Westpark?).
John W asked if there had been any communication with Bike Houston since at one time they were
talking about a bike trail between Memorial Park and Braes bayou along the railroad/powerline right of
ways (see URL).

Colonial Park
Need to explore better communication on availability of the activity room for rentals. It is currently
underutilized.
Consider lowering one of the two pool side ball hoops so younger children can use it without being lifted
closer to the hoop.
Judson Park
Neighbors may pay for removal of monkey bars in favor of another structure. Need ideas on where to
relocate the existing monkey bar structure.
Liberty Hill Park
Tim asked for any ideas on possible uses for this area - currently landscaped but surrounded by roads....
Wier Park
Issue of black rubber base discussed - is it really an issue with respect to reports of being hot and smelly
and staining (especially in summer)?
An alternative to replacement of the black rubber could be to create a smaller area of Astro turf away
from the existing play structures for very young children. Could also consider a canopy structure, similar
to other parks, to protect from summer sun and heat. Options to build wind bearing canopy supports
near the trees may be an issue.
Whitt Johnson Park
Current play structure is 15 years old but other than some missing paint is structurally strong. It is
scheduled for replacement with a smaller modern structure but given experience at Judson it was
questioned why we would replace versus just re-paint.

Gates for parks with fences are a maintenance issue; do parks need gates?
Recycling containers are either in place or planned for installation at many outdoor parks (similar to
those in use at Judson). Park users are not always utilizing current containers properly to minimize
contamination so any container with more than 30% contamination is currently going to trash; recycle
Board to address.
