HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRB Minutes 04062011EParks and Recreation Board Minutes page 4 CITY OF WEST UNIVERSITY PLACE, TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION Board Update -March 2011 a......................... > Community Building/ Senior Center renovations are to begin Monday April IV' and conclude no later than Tuesday, May 31.t. A We are moving the Administration and Senior Services to the Colonial Pool while the renovations are being facilitated. A Senior programs would be absorbed at the WUPRC, CPP and the Scout House. D Judson Park Redevelopment, Phase I, is on schedule to begin on July 5, 2011 -taking approximately four weeks to complete. 1 Scout House renovations are being deferred until this summer. New appliances, interior painting, refinishing the floors and possibly repairing and re-painting the exterior are the project scope being considered. A The summer 2011 Leisure Guide has been mailed to all WUP residences. A We have finalized the baby-sitting services with "Let Us Play", specifically for our WUPRC members. All park landscapes, color beds and irrigation systems are being prepared for spring and are expected to be completed by April 22nd. ➢ Graffiti issue update - PARD and Public Works have tried to remove the graffiti, however, the paint used at Colonial Park will not come off with standard chemicals and hot water treatments. Public Works is investigating the use of a light acid-wash application. A Colonial Park Pool re-opened for weekends on April 2, 2011 and will go into 7 day a week mode beginning Labor Day Weekend. We have generated a total $43,840.00 since January 1, 2011. The total 2011 CPP revenue estimate is $201,500.00 - we are already at the 22% return mark have only been open to the public for two (2) days so far. ' A Park signage and Caretaker pilot has begun at Huffington Park. ➢ Made an offer of employment to Justin Potthoff, for the Parks Crew Leader position. Anticipate Justin beginning his employment no later than Monday, May 16°h A Leigh Ylanan, Recreation Specialist, has tendered her resignation effective July 17, 2011. Leigh will be moving to Denver Colorado. She will be terribly missed, as she has been a top performer for us since her hiring on in 2004. Position will be posted in May of this year. D Installation of Bike racks at the Colonial Park Pool is underway and scheduled for completion by May 11, 2011. Shade structures at the Colonial Park tennis courts is schedule to be completed by June 3, 2011. D Landscaping has been added to the entrance of the parking lot on west side of the WUPRC property, which was recently completed and used to handle Tri -Sports parking overflow. y A significant Eagle Scout Project, specifically to refurbish all of the wooden play structures and add a new roof on the sand box play feature at the Colonial Park Playground. Work scheduled to be completed by May 8, 2011. m> Preparing for a recreation software transition. Staff has compared vendors and RecTrac has been selected as the preferred software provider.
