DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION
Board Update - February 2011
A Community Building / Senior Center renovations are scheduled to begin later this month
and completed by the end of May 2011. Budget is $250K. We are considering moving
Administration and Senior Services to the Colonial Pool while the renovations are being
facilitated, in an effort to expedite the work. Senior programs would be absorbed at the
WUPRC and CPP.
➢ The Purchase Order for Judson Park Phase I has been issued and the work is scheduled
to begin on July 5, 2011- taking approximately four weeks to complete.
D Scout House renovations are being deferred until this summer. New appliances, interior
painting, refinishing the floors and possibly repairing and re-painting the exterior are
the project scope being considered.
D KidVentures, our new summer camp provider has already sold out the first campo
session. Colonial Park wooden play structures - we have met with an interested Eagle
Scout candidate to take-on this project and are waiting for his Board of Review to
approve.
➢ The summer 2011 Leisure Guide has been sent to the printers and is scheduled to be in
the mail by April 1s`. Many exciting new programs have been planned.
A We are finalizing baby-sitting services with "Let Us Play" for our WUPRC members. It
will involve reduced rates and unlimited time slots.
A All park landscapes, color beds and irrigation systems are being prepared for spring.
WUPRC & CPP have be bestowed two new awards, one national and one state, for
excellence in design. 3/28/11 public presentation by Mayor Pro-Tern Fry
D Graffiti issue update
A Colonial Park Pool re-opens for weekends on April 2, 2011 and will go into 7 day a week
mode beginning Labor Day Weekend.
➢ Park signage and Caretaker pilot has begun at Huffington Park.
A Hired a new Rec Specialist - Julie Bickham 7 years experience marketing, promotion and
programming strengths.
➢ Posted position for the Parks Crew Leader position - have receive excellent applications
to date.
