I. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Vice Chair Janine Schueppert.
II. Review and Approval of Minutes of the December 2, 2009 meeting: approved as submitted.
III. Citizen Comments: Deferred (see Item V)
IV. Recreation and Leisure Programming Sub-Committee:
Janine said that the age-based interest group meetings will start up again later this month.
V. New Recreational Facilities Fee Schedule
Kevin Boyle presented the final draft of the fee schedules for the various recreational
facilities. He made the following points about the process used to develop the schedules:
1. Fair and easy to administer
2. Competitive with other local facilities of similar type, e.g. YMCA
He noted that there is a significant discount built in for residents who choose to purchase
memberships for both the Recreation Center and Colonial Park Pool (discount of $100 for
an individual, $175 for a family).
The Board's feedback from the December meeting regarding tennis court policies and
procedures has been incorporated into the fee schedules. We will still have tennis
memberships. Staff will continue to oversee the court reservation process.
Kevin also noted that the sub-committee had considered separate memberships for
different components of the Recreation Center, i.e. weight room only or cardio only, but
determined that this approach would be very difficult to administer.
Janine questioned the rental rates and janitorial fees for certain facilities, especially the
Scout House. She said that compared to other facilities, such as the Houston Zoo
