HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRB Minutes 04072010DParks and Recreation Board Minutes based on the results of their time trials. • Tim said that the issues are safety and proficiency. He has met with the Piranhas board and concerned citizens. A memorandum of understanding is being developed, He emphasized that children who fail to meet the trial times can participate on a developmental team, and can move up once they can meet the standards. He also said that no West U resident will be excluded. • Janine said that there seems to have been some movement on the policy, because the previous proposal didn't have much support from parents. The other issue is total capacity. She asked if non-resident membership be limited if we exceed available capacity. • Russ - Some sports have boundaries (like Little League). He recalls that the guideline for Tri5ports used to be 70% West U, but said that it is up to the individual organization, • Sona - If there are 200 applicants for 100 spots, West U residents should come first. • Leah - Should we be allowing other groups to come in and run their own programs and have a separate relationship with the "end user" or should all moneys flow through us. • Tim - The only thing lacking is an MOU with Piranhas. All of the monetary arrangements for the various programs (Jazzercise, TriSports, Piranhas) are different. Everyone agrees that residents should not be bumped for non-residents. Based on a survey of Piranha participants, the kids are more revved up by social aspects of the activity. • Russ - Recommended that Tim take the topic back to the Piranhas to address. VIII. Board Reports IX. New Business Teresa made a motion that the Parks and Recreation Board recommend that City Council begin reconsidering the acquisition of additional park land consistent with the approved funding from Provision 3 of the 2006 bond election, The motion was carried. X. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm. The next meeting is scheduled for May 5, 2010 @ 6:00 pm in the conference room at the Recreation Center. Please note the change of time.
