CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
The City Council of the City of West University Place, Texas, met in special and regular sessions on
Monday, July 25, 2011, in the Municipal Building, 3800 University, West University Place, Texas
beginning at 6:15 p.m.
SPECIAL WORKSHOP (BEGINNING AT 6:15 IN THE CONFERENCE ROOM)
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Fry called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m. Council and staff in attendance were: Mayor Pro
Tern Sample, Councilmembers Heathcott, Johnson, and Yehle, City Manager Ross, City Secretary
Lenz, City Attorney Petrov (arrived at 6:22 p.m.), Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director Peifer,
and Police Chief Walker.
Agenda items were discussed as follows:
1. Boards/Commissions/Judges; Appointment Schedule
Matters related to the appointment of the City's judges, prosecutors, and members of the City's
boards and commissions.
City Secretary Lenz confirmed that she will be accepting applications from interested residents until
5:00 p.m., August 8 and that shortly after the deadline she will be contacting applicants to schedule
interviews.
After a brief discussion, Council decided to conduct interviews on August 17'h and 18'h beginning at
5:30 p.m., in 10 minute intervals. They also scheduled August 23'd, 24'h, and 25'h as additional
dates, if necessary.
It was confirmed that only applicants for the positions to the Zoning and Planning Commission, the
Zoning Board of Adjustment, the Building and Standards Commission, the Parks Board, and the
Recycling and Solid Waste Reduction Board will be interviewed. Candidates for positions on the
Senior Services Board and the Friends of West University Parks Fund Board will be appointed
based on recommendations from staff.
At 6:23 p.m., Councilmember Heathcott moved to adjourn the workshop. Mayor Pro Tern Sample
seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED.

REGULAR MEETING (BEGINNING AT 6:30 P.M. IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS)
Agenda items were as follows:
Call to Order: Mayor Fry called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Council and staff in attendance
were: Councilmembers Heathcott, Johnson, Sample and Yehle, City Manager Ross, Assistant City
Manager/Public Works Director Peifer, City Secretary Lenz, City Attorney Petrov, and Police Chief
Walker.
Pledge of Allegiance: Councilmember Yehle led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Confirmation of Notice: City Secretary Lenz confirmed that Notice of the special and regular
meetings was duly posted in accordance with the Texas Government Code, Chapter 551.
2. Public Comments
This is an opportunity for citizens to speak to Council relating to agenda and non-agenda items.
There were no comments from the public.
3. Consent Agenda
All Consent Agenda items listed are considered to be routine by the City Council and will be
enacted by one motion. There will be no separate discussion of these items unless a Council
member requests in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Agenda and
considered in its normal sequence on the agenda.
A. City Council Minutes
Approve City Council minutes of July 11, 2011.
Councilmember Johnson moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. Councilmember
Yehle seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED.

Noes: None
Absent: None
4. Reports by Council/Staff
Mayor Pro Tern Sample and Councilmember Johnson reported on their TML New Council
Orientation Workshop in Austin. Both said it was a very informative workshop and that it was worth
the trip.
5. Adjourn
With no other business before the Council, Councilmember Heathcott moved to adjourn the
meeting at 6:42 p.m. Councilmember Johnson seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED.
