HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRBMinutes120209_Page_2Janine indicated that at the David Weekly YMCA, all classes are included with a membership. For our facilities, classes would not be included with the membership. Tim explained how fees are administered for instructors of classes - that we determine the fair market value within a 25 mile radius and then average out the rates. Instructors are then given the option of being paid an hourly rate or receiving a 50/50 split of revenues (most popular option). Tim mentioned that we are not competing with the YMCA - we reciprocate and send each other customers. West U has an excellent relationship with the YMCA. Tim indicated that the subcommittee decided not to have an initiation fee. Users can put their credit card on file and will get billed monthly. We won't have contracts - so we can easily increase the rate for non-residents if facilities become over-subscribed. If users sign up for 12 months, they get the 13th month free. Plan is to use a biometric scan of hand for access to facility. It is anticipated that this system will pay for itself in 5 years. The workout room will also have a controlled access scanner so individuals taking classes at the center won't be able to access these facilities unless they have a membership. Charles indicated that if you combined the proposed fees together for Colonial Park and the Recreation Center, it would be $775/year, which sounded high. In the past, we had told tax payers that the fees wouldn't go up. Tim mentioned that the Rec Ctr is primarily going to be an adult center. The pool is designed for structured adult swim and structured youth activities. Leah asked what the plan is for addressing the swim needs for kids during winter. If families have a membership at Colonial Park, would this include usage rights to the Rec Ctr pool during the winter? Charles recommended that we consider increasing fees for non-residents - we don't want to price out families. Sona and Leah indicated that they anticipated lots of demand for the the indoor pool. Kevin said if you are a member and a resident, you get to sign up for classes first. Teresa expressed concern that we may have a PR issue if facilities are overcrowded, and suggested that a subcommittee form to develop a Communication/PR plan for introducing the Community to the new facilities/fee structures. Janine, Leah and Teresa volunteered to serve on this subcommittee. Kevin reminded group that daily walk-in fees were also proposed. Leah indicated that Wooden Deck Rental at Colonial Park had been underpriced in the past - we should relook at that pricing. Russ indicated that they subcommittee had discussed the proposed fee structure with the Seniors Board. VI. Friends Board Report: Leah distributed packets to Board Members with information about underwriting the Park Lovers Ball. She also encouraged ideas/referrals for Auction items.
