Russ indicated that the gym for basketball was off the table and that we are hoping to acquire additional land at the Recreation Center, part of which might be used for an outside basketball court. George Boehme recalled that there had been substantial opposition to moving the basketball court away from Wier Park. Helen sees the need for another court on the west side. Russ agreed, but said that an additional court on the west side was not a part of this phase of the development plan. III. The minutes of the March 4 and March 12 meetings were approved.. VI. Friends Report Joni reported that the Park Lovers' Ball was a huge success that they had made over $150,000, This money has been allocated to the renovation of Huffington Park. The location for the 2010 PLB has not been decided. There are several other events planned for the short term: garage sale on April 18 and ribbon cuttings at Weir Park and at Whitt Johnson Park. Jeff first reviewed changes to the plan since our last meeting: VII. Staff Reports Tim reviewed the highlights of the weekly staff reports that are being distributed via e-mail Janine reported that there had been three meetings with the Huffington Park users group and that a nautical theme had been selected. The equipment will include a battleship, a whale and new swings. Most of the neighbors have seen and approved the plan. Helen wanted to have a sand element, but Time said that it didn't "make the cut" with the users group. Tim reported that 11 trees will be removed and one new tree will be planted. $150,000 has been allocated for the redevelopment, and the current budget estimate is $137,000. Mardi moved that we approve the Huffington Park development plan. The group voted unanimously for approval. Janine reported that the Eagle Scout landscaping project for Judson Park is scheduled for April 25. Charles reminded us of the dates for the Classical Concerts: April 3, April 17, and April 24. Tim reminded us about Arbor Day/Meet the City on April 4. Tim also reported that the Eagle Scout project for planting trees at Colonial Park is in process, and that the scout was looking for funding. He also said that the Eagle Scout community garden project is in process. VIII. Board Reports Mardi reported that she had replanted much of the butterfly garden at Whitt Johnson Park. Charles asked about the safety of the substrate at Weir Park and said that several mothers had expressed concerns. Tim will forward a recent article on the subject and said that the substrate is safe.
