HomeMy WebLinkAboutPRBMinutes020409_Page_2Jeff then presented a new interior layout that has the multipurpose courts on the east side
of the building with the weight and cardio spaces overlooking the pool.
Janine asked if there had been an increase in office space. She is also concerned about
the lack of views to the pool from the public areas of the building.
Helen asked if it would be more efficient and safer to have the large multipurpose room,
which will be used for Jazzercise classes, on the first floor.
Jeff responded that the staircase is oversized and open to allow for easy traffic flow to the
second floor.
Joni asked about the size of the conference room - 300 square feet - and about the
availability of storage space for Friends. Tim indicated that he has consulted with Donna
Lamond and that some of the Friends supplies and equipment will remain in storage at the
Community Center.
Scott Hamrick said that the men's locker room seemed small. He asked if the space was
adequate.
Jeff explained that the four unisex/family restrooms are intended to alleviate the traffic in
both the men's and women's locker rooms. He also stated that the building code requires
more space for women's restrooms than for men's. He said that the building is "over
plumbed" and repeated that there will never be enough restrooms.
Helen questioned the four family restrooms and only a single urinal in the men's locker
room. She asked if it would be better to have two urinals there and perhaps one less
family restroom.
Jeff responded that there are lots of options and lots of facilities. He cautioned that we
need to size the facilities to meet normal daily needs.
Dave asked why the pool is pictured as centered within the deck space. Jeff said that the
plans call for an eleven foot deck on all sides, but indicated that the centering depicted is
just for ease of presentation at this point.
Frank Griffin shared the concern about the space in the men's locker room and indicated
that he had hoped for more space for the cardio and weight facilities. Tim pointed out that
the cardio area is being increased by 200 square feet (33%) and the weight area by 500
square feet (63%) over the existing facilities at Colonial Park.
Dave asked how the Recreation Center usage was balanced with the other recreation
facilities in the city. Tim said that we will be moving larger footprint programs like
Jazzercise to the Recreation Center, which will open up space at the Community Center for
senior programs. We are increasing space by just about 3000 square feet over what we
have today.
Janine said that it would be nice to increase the size of the restrooms and asked whether
we could save some space on offices.
Michael Ross said that two managers, an assistant manager, and the Friends executive
director all require private space.
Dave moved that we approve "design option 6". The motion was passed, with Helen
dissenting.
