The City Council convened in Workshop Session in the Municipal Building (3800 University Blvd.) on May 10, 1999, with the following members present: Mayor Lewis presiding, Council Members Ballanfant, Bertini, Grubb and May. The City Manager, City Secretary, City Attorney, Police Chief, Finance Director, Parks and Recreation Director, Fire Chief and Public Works Director were also present. CONDUCT ORIENTATION FORNEWL Y ELECTED MAYOR AND COUNCIL MEMBERS: The City CoUncil and City Staff discussed roles played, rules of procedure, administrative details and current issues. " City Manager Sherman Yehl presented the following issues that will be discussed. in future council meetings: Traffic on Belmont and Sunset Streets Sidewalks and lighting Ruskin Townhouse District Infrastructure improvements ISO ratings City budget and tax rate Comprehensive Plan and the Goodman Corporation Building inspection services Police Department staffmg Council Member Bertini requested reports on crime in West University for the past five years. He also addressed traffic problems and the idea of developing a traffic management protocol. Council Member Ballanfant discussed the increased property values in West University Place and the possibility of filing a challenge with the Harris County Appraisal District. Council Member Grubb asked questions regarding the Open Meetings Act and how Council would address items raised by citizens during the Council meetings. ., 'HI' I.lilrl rr- 11,_1 1Im,-",,.
