Denis Powers, Dave Miller, Frank Griffin MEMBERS ABSENT: Dr. Peter Benjamin, Muddy McDaniel, Gerry Spedale, and David Flame STAFF PRESENT: Building Official John R. Brown, City Planner Debbie Scarcella, Building Inspector Paul Wolfe, and Permit Technician Kathi Sutton GUESTS PRESENT: Laura Torgerson [Call to Order] Bryant Slimp called the meeting to order at 6:21 p.m. 1. Notices, Rules, Etc. Bryant Slimp welcomed BSC members, visitors and staff members to the • meeting. There were introductions of BSC members, staff and visitors. Bryant Slimp stated that all five members present would need to vote. 2. Meeting Minutes. J. Denis Powers made a motion to approve the November 06, 2008 minutes as submitted. Frank Griffin seconded the motion. AYES: Bryant Slimp, Brian Hoogendam, Frank Griffin, J. Denis Powers, and Dave Miller NOES: None. ABSTAIN: None. Meeting minutes passed. Dave Miller requested that an item be added to the February 2009 agenda. Dave Miller would like to discuss concerns raised by Laura Torgerson of 3620 University Blvd in reference to issues concerning Covington Builders. 3. Agenda Item #3 Construction Code Update. Bryant Slimp asked John Brown to precede with the presentation of construction code updates. John Brown stated that he will make presentation of items that he feels would be significant or cause impact to residential construction within our city. John Brown proceeded with his presentation, and discussed general questions that arose with the Board. Bryant Slimp asked John Brown to bring information on the 110 volt smoke detection alarm requirements for new residential construction. Frank Griffin asked John Brown to provide further discussion relating to the types of wood • products that are resistant to wood rot or mildew for use on the exterior of newly constructed homes. Bryant Slimp added to the discussion that we may need to address exterior paint and primer thickness to help prevent wood rot. The Commission had no objections with any code updates discussed during this meeting. [Adjournment] Frank Griffin made a motion to adjourn. Dave Miller seconded the motion.
