r' Board of Directors' Meeting
Municipal Building Conference Room
September 4, 2002
The meeting was called to order at 6:19 P.M. those in attendance were: Joni
Fichter, Gayle Jackson, Beverly Loftis, Ross Frazer, Danielle Kernell, Mark
Mailes, Karin Dubose, Donna LaMond, Maria Elena Herbst, Vicki Grams, Lynne
Goddard, Sue Hanna, Leah Ragiel, Charles Henke, CeCe McCann, Shannon
Gardner, and Will Bertron.
Joni Fichter reported that position 16 is open, and Danielle Kernell has an
application from Whitney Walsh. Motion made and seconded to recommend to
City Council that Whitney Walsh fill Position 16. Motion carried.
Minutes of the August 7, 2002 meeting were approved.
Treasurer Ross Frazer reported that $49,084 had been paid to Lone Star for
Colonial Park play equipment; total cash on hand is $518,301.24; should have
audit results this week; invoices should go Ross Frazer; reminded everyone to
write down what the invoice should be charged to
Executive Director Danielle Kernell reported that we need to charge sales tax on
the ornaments, t-shirts and golf shirts that we sell; need to find out whether we
pay quarterly or yearly; also need to see if we can use the tax free days the
State sets forth; bulk mail permit has been applied for; PR report passed out;
information packet for a Corporate Park Partners Program also passed out;
member of Friends asked to look over and respond to Danielle
Danielle passed out information regarding the initial start up of the membership
campaign and presented her recommendation; membership levels to begin at
$35.00 per year
Motion made and approved to recommend to City Council that approximately
$3,100 be appropriated to fund 8500 brochures for the campaign
Motion made that all proceeds from the 2003 Park Lovers Ball to fund completion
of Colonial Park Phase I as per the Master Plan, and Parks Corner at 2003 Park
Lovers Ball to fund playground equipment for the new Rec Center; motion carried
Motion made to recommend to City Council that Rice Pocket Park be officially
designated as a city park; motion carried
Foundations, Large Gifts and Planned Giving: no from Harriman, Brown, Powell,
Wortham, Cockrell; Cullen Ho Endowment, Hershey and Fondren all pending
action; Farish request to go out soon
Large Gifts: coming up with and identifying candidates
Membership and Magazine: almost ready to go out, pending new changes
Special Events: Talked of having a tree trunk displayed at Auden and University
showing how our membership drive is going
Discussion about trick or treating for the parks; Leah Ragiel to head up
Park Lovers Ball 2003: Cece passed around a fact sheet; budget has been
approved; summer committee meetings have been good; newspapers have been
supportive of getting out press releases; 5 auction donations needed from each
Friends board member
PLB Recognition and Follow Up: No report
Wish List/Giving Tree: wish list for parks to be on line soon; three wish list
boards are now at Colonial Park, Community Center and City Hall; can be used
for meetings; check with Danielle; Elena Chapel funds will purchase tree and
bench to be placed in one of the parks
Business Partners: Central Market - no card as of now; Spirit Night with Flying
Pig and Chick Fil A
Block Captains: Lynne Goddard said program progressing
Dedication of Colonial: No date set at this time
Old Business: Letter from Whitt Johnson about a museum
New Business: None
Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:19 P.M.
