Board of Directors Meeting
July 7, 1999
City Council Chambers
1. Call to Order:
Linda Gray called the meeting to order at 6:35 P.M. Members in attendance
were: Linda Gray, Gayle Jackson, Chris Moretta, Joni Hruska Fichter, Dan
Cooper, Bill Findley, Donna LaMond, Pat Lawrence, Theresa Attwell, Mike
Koinis, Mark Mailes and Margaret Wallace. Other attendees were PLB
Chairs Grant and Ayse McCracken, and City Councilman Burt Ballanfant.
2. Approval of June 2, 1999 Minutes
The minutes were approved by Bill Findley and seconded by Linda Gray
3. Treasurer's Report
4. Reports
a. Foundations: No report
b. New Events: Responsibilities of new members adopted and passed out
c. Pavers: See attached sheet prepared by Mike Koinis for this meeting
Mike and Mark Mailes to work on cost estimate at Colonial Park regarding
pavers; Paver brochure needs to have the Friends Board logo on it;
We would like to have the brochures done in a month; someone
suggested calling Craig Bortz with Tex Print to see if he could give us a
good deal on the printing; Mike to check on line dedication at City Hall for
a number to call regarding the pavers; Motion was made for Mike to have
the brochures printed after working out final details and running the cost
by Linda; Pat Lawrence seconded the motion.
d. Randall's Card: no report
e. Water Bill Check Off: Bill Findley agreed to be the chairman
f. Public Relations: Donna LaMond talked about new member recruitment;
have had10+ calls according to City Manager Sherman Yehl; Discussion
about having regular Friends articles in the City Currents with our logo;
article should list ways citizens can contribute to the Friends Board; need
a name for the article
g. Golf Shirts: working on a publicity shot; suggestion made to have
available at the West U School Carnival
h. 2000 Park Lovers Ball
Co-chairs Ayse and Grant McCracken reported that the band will be
Doppelganger, and they need a check for $1,750 from Dan Cooper; trying
to get more people involved doing small jobs; they asked that everyone try
to put together tables and get some interesting items for the auction.
Committee sign up sheets were passed around. Those committees are
parties, dinners, restaurants, sports, children's items, personal items,
artists' corner and men's items
Suggestions were: getting Bank United, sponsor of the Thanksgiving Day
Parade, to give us a spot or two to ride on a float; Rodeo Parade spot; ball
boy or girl for the Comets, Rockets or Astros; get West U resident
Deborah Duncan with Channel 13 to come up with something at her
workplace; get something to do with the Texaco Grand Prix; Shell Houston
Open invitation to the Player's Party. Grant and Ayse asked that everyone
bring 3 unique ideas to the next meeting
Ayse and Grant to decide what to do about automated auction check out
that we have used for the past two years
Budget and ticket pricing to be discussed at August meeting
5. Old Business
Pat Lawrence to get with City Attorney to discuss our proposed Guidelines for
Tie In Partners
Margaret Wallace to see what she can find for a better Friends logo clipart
6. New Business
None

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00
