The meeting was called to order at 7:44.
Minutes from the October 2000 meeting were read, and a motion to approve was made
by Evans Attwell, seconded by Mike Hood and unanimously approved.
Mark Mailes Report
A. The bubble is up on the Colonial Park pool and is scheduled to re-open on
November 6
B. Asbestos is being removed from Grise (sp?) house in Colonial Park
Burt Ballanfant Report
A. YMCA
1. City and the YMCA Acquisition Committee has prepared new offer to
make for the Y
2. Committee negotiators are Marshall Clinksdale and Rick Spencer
B. YMCA Adjacent Lots
1. Lot on Community and Ruskin sold recently for $140,000
2. BB brought up the idea of having the Friends acquire houses in the 4200
block of Ruskin as they became available in order to (i) add a "buffer"
between the Y and West U residents immediately to the north of the Y
and (ii) expand the Y property
3. There was no interest expressed by the Parks Board in pursuing such
acquisitions due to resource constraints and other factors

Historical Society /Pittsburgh Lot
A discussion was held regarding the possibility of acquiring a large lot on Pittsburg -
potentially in conjunction with the West U. Historical Society - and convert it into a park
or nature center. Comments made include:
A. Jim Patterson
1. Discouraged the board from developing the tract as a nature center
2. Key concerns and issues such a potential acquisition include lack of
parking and accessibility
B. Linda Gray
1. Does not like location
2. Strong concerns regarding lack of parking
C. Parks Board
1. All members in attendance orally opposed pursuing the acquisition of the
tract
Linda Gray/ Friends Report
A. Current Balance of Friends Account
1. $482,178, of which $300,000 is committed to master plan related
expenses and Whitt Johnson Park
B. Bill Hall Memorial
1. Builder(s) have agreed to pay half of the estimated $20,000 cost
2. $1,700 has been raised to date from individual contributions
C. Fiscal Year 2001 Revenues
1. Projected to be $230,000
D. Underwriters needed for Park Lovers Ball by December 1
Master Plan Update
A. Gateway
1. Design presented
2. Estimated cost is $10,000 for each 9'/ 4 sided sign
3. Next step is to create a mock-up and finalize estimated cost
B. Colonial Park
1. Design process discussed
2. Plan to have preliminary planning discussion at December meeting
Other Business
A motion to adjourn was made. The motion was approved unanimously, and the
meeting was adjourned at 9:39 p.m.
