Meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. IL Special Meeting. This was a special meeting called to discuss and review proposals from land design/vendors for Colonial Park redesign. Reference Check. a. White Oak. Mike Hood performed the reference check review. Glowing reviews with specific style and ultimate quality "changed their community". Universally positive. b. SLA. Evans Attwell received 3 of 5 references. Primarily good. One mixed. 2. Presentations. a. White Oak. Jim Patterson principal of White Oak Studio pointed out two main strengths. i. Workshop Based Design: - Was involved in Tapley project for West U. - Interactive/Educational methodology of brainstorming with board and community to develop and build support for the project. ii. Small Firm by Decision: - Continual involvement in the project. Principal stays involved. iii. Showed various slides. iv. Various questions were asked regarding cost analysis, project design and credibility. No conflicts. b. SLA. Veiji Asakora i. Introduced Staff. ii. Development/analysis discussion regarding approach to developing design. Stated that "we are one of the largest firms in the Houston area. Twelve professionals. Parks are a high priority." Board Discussion. Potential conflicts associated with Tim Hansen's involvement with succeeding bid discussed. Evans Attwell reviewed historical issue's associated with potential conflict. Discussion ensued regarding possibility of expanding scope of potential architects. Decided to stay with results of historical winnowing process and select from group of the three remaining. Discussed pro's and con's of each option based on process, experience, financing, understanding and enthusiasm for the job. Ability to "partner" with the Board. Decision moved and seconded to choose White Oak. Unanimously approved. III. Adiournment. Meeting was adjourned at 8:47.
