There was much discussion regarding the changes by the board, including the repositioning of the
basketball court, consolidating the two playscapes, height of the fence on the west and north
borders, and which plants to utilize in the western and northern border space.
A citizen observing the meeting suggested two changes to the revised design of the basketball
court: (i) addition of a NBA regulation three point line and (ii) creation of an "adult" court and
"kids" court.
Connie Spencer made a motion to (i) approve the revised design for Whitt Johnson Park as
submitted and presented by Scott Slaney with one change which encompasses excluding benches
along the north fence of the park and (ii) submit the revised plan as approved by the board to city
council. 'Virginia Wilson seconded the motion, and the motion was approved unanimously.
Scott Slaney said that he could make the approved changes to the Whitt Johnson Park design in
time for the next city council meeting and that he would ensure that the revised design with
approved changes would be within the previously approved budget for the park.
The board decided to submit the revised plan as approved by the board to city council at council's
August 24 meeting.
Connie Spencer made a motion to (i) amend the previously-approved revised design for Whitt
Johnson Park to reduce the width of the granite path/walk to six feet and (ii) submit this plan as
approved by the board to city council. Evans Attwell seconded the motion, and the motion was
approved unanimously.
Adjournment
Having no further business, a motion to adjourn was made by Linda Lewis, seconded by 'V'irginia
Wilson, and passed unanimously.
