West University Parks Board
Minutes of 3/6/96 Meeting

Attendees: Cindy Sparicrnan (Chairperson), Marcela Chennisi, David Kuykerndall, Tony Davis,
Tim Hansen, Odette Mace, Evans Attwell, Virginia Wilson, Sherri Crawford, Larry Zi~rumerman,
Karen McKemie, Carol Burke
The meeting was called to order at 7:38 P.M.
The minutes from the last Parks Board Meeting were approved.
A status of the Parks Lovers Ball fund raising was reviewed by Cindy Sparkman. To-date the
Park Lovers Ball has raised a net total of $86,461. This excludes the $50,000 donation provided
by Steve Radick and a few other items not yet tallied.
Cindy Sparkman reported that City Council has given approval to begin to plan the Rice pocket
park. No plan exists for this property and a recommendation will need to be made by the Parks
Board as to the type of park best suited for this property. The City has a budget yet has not
COMMnicated the amount of the budget.
Final presentations for Judson Park were given by Lauren Griffith and David Stanger. Both
architects submitted a preliminary budget for their design. (Attachment A and B of these minutes)
An informal vote was taken to determine which architect Board members would tike to
recommend. The results of the informal vote was 10 votes for Lauren Griffith, 1 for David
Stanger and 1 abstain.
Tim Hansen made a motion to recommend to City Council that the design contract for Judson
Park be awarded to Lauren Griffith. Tony Davis seconded the motion, The motion was voted on
and received 11 in favor votes and i opposed. Cindy Sparkman wilt bring this recommendation
to City Council
The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 P.M.
