The Meeting was called to order at 7:50pm. A motion
was made by Phil Stevenson and seconded by Margaret Sanchez
to approve the minutes of the March 3, 1993 meeting. The
motion passed unanimously. Under citizens requests, Ross
commended Colonial Park staff member Betty Seymour.
Margaret asked that the lifeguard schedule be revised for
proper coverage during weekend hours. Under action items,
ParkFest was discussed. If was decided to close the street
around Colonial Park. Mark was to coordinate with Police
Chief. Valerie Decker, of Herrin-Magness Realty, gave an
up-date of the Fun Run. Margaret then passed out job
assignments for each member. The last action item was
playground equipment. A playground structure was approved
for Whitt Johnson Park. This is a budgeted item. A motion
was made by Jere Ahrens and seconded by Phil Stevenson that
$5,000 of Friends of West University Parks funds be spent to
add pea gravel, construct a concrete border and add a couple
of small playground pieces. The motion passed unanimously.
Finally, the board discussed a proposal by some members
of the City Council for playground equipment at Colonial
Park. After much discussion, a motion was made by Jere
Ahrens and seconded by Phil Stevenson to study the proposal
further.
There being no further business, the meeting was
adjourned at 10:30pm.
