( Board of Directors' Meeting
May 2, 2001
Municipal Building Conference Room
3800 University Blvd.
The meeting was called to order at 6:20 P.M. by Linda Gray. Those in attendance
were: Gayle Jackson, Stephanie Langenstein, Ann Martin, Donna LaMond,
Sherry Gift, Mike Koinis, Mark Mailes, Joni Fichter, Linda Gray, Sue Hanna,
Karin Dubose, Beverly Loftis and Alisa Starbird.
2. The minutes of the April 4. 2001 meeting were approved.
3. Treasurer's Report: Total cash is $647,955.95; the city is owed approximately
$250,000 for Whitt Johnson Park and the architects are owed approximately
$45,000 for the Master Plan and work on Colonial Park. After subtracting these
two amounts, our balance is really around $348,000.
4. Reports:
a. Foundations: No report
b. New Events:
Homeplace: As a board, we are in charge of the concert which will be
underwritten by Reliant Energy; Rotary Club has agreed to sponsor a
parade; Karin Dubose passed out information sheets from the last
Homeplace meeting; next meeting will be May 11
c. Pavers - an order for 27 octagonal and 10 square pavers has been placed;
on or around May 15. Linda and Will to get together and discuss paver
areas since some parks' designated paver areas are full;
Possibly, there will be room for pavers at the east end of Colonial Park
d. Randall' s Card: $730 has been earned; time to advertise again; brings in
around $3,000 per year
e. Water Bill Check Off. No report
f. Public Relations: No report
g. Park Lover's Ball: Wrap up meeting to be held Thursday, June 7, at 9:30
A.M. at home of Linda Gray; will be developing a PLB guideline
notebook; job descriptions need to be to Linda Gray by May 15; be sure
to have a description of what you did, the time it took and a calendar of
when each item was done; 2002 Ball Chair is Mary Elena Herbst; Auction
Chair is Leah Ragiel and Underwriting Chair is Sue Hanna
h. Golf Shirts, Ornaments and T-Shirts: Joni reported that she worked the
Arbor Day celebrations and not many of these items were sold
5. Old Business:
City in last stages of negotiations with the YMCA; will be executive session
Monday night
Membership to Friends Program: Ann Martin reported that she and several other
members of this board had met to brainstorm about this program. She passed out
a sheet with suggested levels of membership; program in initial planning stages;
board members asked to look over and get comments back to Ann by May 15
Bill Hall Memorial: Still working with Bill's sister, Kathy; Bardwell to donate
some supplies to the project; City Attorney Jim Dougherty working on a liability
issue which came up; Mark Mailes to follow up on this liability issue
6. New Business:
Elena Chapel Walton Memorial: Joni Fichter to contact Sheridan and asked what
she would like to do with the $1370 in this fund; maybe a tree, playground
equipment or bench; we will be happy to coordinate an event if she wants one
Board Positions: Sue Hanna, Cheryl Butler and Cheryl Hoyal have been
appointed to this board; have not been able, however, to get hold of Cheryl
Hoyal; need names of others who might be willing to serve on the board as we
have more positions coming that will need to be filled
7. Adjournment:
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
