5. Old Business
Will Bertron reported on the Bill Hall Memorial; design engineers have signed off; Bill's sister,
Kathy, is putting personal touches on - something nautical; will be cast at Glassell, with her
paying, and then will be placed in Huffington Park; Carol Burke needs to transfer the money
in the account to us and Dan Cooper to follow up with Carol
Huffington Sign: Christy Quinn to meet with Michelle Jackson to design temporary sign to be
installed at Huffington Park until the long-range planning signage for all the parks in the city is
decided upon; permanent sign will then be erected
Edloe Linear Park: costs varying; may need additional sources of funds
Liberty Park: ideas being tossed around for a theme for this park; maybe military; maybe
have special pavers for veterans
Whitt Johnson Park: should be ready by April 1; $7,000 budgeted for the retaining wall to be
built around the tree in the berm was not used to build the retaining wall; tree had to be taken
down; Mark Mailes reported that prices for moving the tree were around $17,000 - $20,000;
even if had been able to move, not guarantee that tree would live; funds used to buy a
100-gal. tree from the Tree Trust to replace existing tree; fast growing, taproot-type tree
needed here; Motion by Pat Van Sweringen to look into getting a tree for up to the $7,000 we
had budgeted for the retaining wall to replace the 100-gal tree; seconded by Beverly Loftis;
motion carried; will now need approval from City Council
