The meeting was called to order by Linda Gray at 6:40 P.M. Members present were: Mark Mailes, Linda Gray, Ross Frazer, Beverly Loftis, Kim Wilson, Ann Martin, Lisa Ward, Bill Findley, Debbie Rae, Kin Cooper, Dan Cooper, Pat Lawrence and Gayle Jackson. 2. Ross Frazer called for corrections to the August 6, 1997 minutes regarding who made the motion to accept the nominated slate of officers for 1997-1998 and who seconded the motion. The motion to amend the minutes was approved by Beverly Loftis and seconded by Ross Frazer. Treasurer's Report: Balance in account is $258,969.51 in cash and $80,00 in County money Ross made a motion that Dan Cooper find the best deal possible for investing a $100,000 CD for one year. Beverly Loftis seconded the motion which passed unanimously. 4. Committee Reports Foun_ dations: New brochures about West U Parks were discussed. It was noted that a new Parks Board was coming and that coordination between the "Friends' and the Parks Board concerning the brochure was needed. It was decided that production of a new brochure would be put on hold for a few months. Pat Van Sweringen is reviewing the foundation list and getting new names of foundations not currently on the list from which "Friends" is working. It was decided that The Wortham Foundation would be revisited after we have received all the Huffington Foundation money. Park Lovers' Ball: Underwriter letters are going out, "Friends" members received donation forms and packets, and a Fun Run was discussed as a kick off to the Ball. A motion was made for Kim Cooper to pursue the idea of the Fun Run_ Kim noted that they are working with a possible wine underwriter for the Bali, and that there should be more details next month. Grass Roots: Mark Mailes had no news 5. New/Other Business John Bradford of Southside Firetruck Park is to call Linda Gray to schedule coming to one of the "Friends" meetings. Dedication of Hufl7ngton Park is scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 7. Ross is to draft the dedication invitations that Mark Mailes will send to Parks Board Members, "Friends" members, City Council, JMH and Huffington family members. West University Elementary School has again requested a Park Paver for the school auction. Linda Gray made a motion that we give them one and Ann Martin seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Beverly Loftis will bring the names of West University residents who might be willing to serve on the "Friends" Board. Linda. Gray noted that the October 1 st meeting would be held at her home at 4146 Marquette at 6:00 P.M. After the scheduled meeting we will have a parry honoring Ross Frazer, Jere Ahrens and Ginni Mithoff.
