Board of Directors' Meeting
November 6, 1596*6:15 PM*City Hall
AGENDA
The meeting was called to order by Ross Frazer at 6:40 p.m.
Board members present were: Ross Frazer, Jeanne Marosis, Cindy
Sparkman, Carolyn Rappazzo, Jere Ahrens, Kim Wilson, Gayle Jackson,
Pat Lawrence, Janet Lionberger, Linda Gray, Beverly Loftis, and Dan
Cooper.
2. Jere Ahrens made a motion and Carolyn Rappazzo seconded to
approve the minutes of October 2, 1996. The minutes were
approved unanimously.
3. Dan Cooper passed out an itemized statement of the amount
contained in the treasurery. The total amount is $212,672.43.
4. Committee reports:
a. Foundations
Cullen Foundation - Linda Gray talked to Allen Steward
with the Cullen Foundation. He told here money is given
to a variety of charitable institutions. He said that
money for parks is given to the Cullen Park in far west
Houston. Does not look too hopeful.
Michael Huffington, nephew of J. M. Huffington who was the
founder of the J.M.H. stores has offered to donate
$100,000 to the park located on Milton Street if the park
will be named the Huffington Park and a plaque placed in
the park commemorating the fact that the park was the site
of the J.M.H. Store No. 3. Cindy Sparkman stated that the
Parks Board had approved unanimously to accept the
donation. Linda Gray made a motion and Beverly Loftis
seconded to accept the donation for the park. The motion
was approved unanimously. Our recommendation will be
presented to the City Council on Monday, November 11,
1996.
It was suggested that a subcommittee be appointed to set
guidelines for the amount that needs to be donated to have
a park named after an individual or organization. Also
discussed was the size of the park in relation to the
amount of money donated for the naming of the park after
an organization or individual. Beverly Loftis, Pat
Lawrence and Carolyn Rappazzo volunteered to be on the
subcommittee.
b. Park Lover's Ball
A motion was made and approved to donate a paver for
auction at the Park Lover's Ball.
Kim Wilson made a motion and Beverly Loftis seconded to
Make Ginni and Richard Mithoff honorary chairmen of the
Park Lover's Ball. Approved unanimously.
Board Members are to bring a bottle of wine to the
December 4, 1996 meeting.
We had a discussion about donating a table for the
employees of West University Place who are helping with
the preparation of the ball. It was decided to have more
discussion about the table at the December meeting.
Jere Ahrens made a motion and Beverly Loftis seconded to adjourn
the meeting.
Please call Carolyn Rappazzo or Ross Frazer if you are unable to
attend the December meeting.
