III. Minutes: The minutes of the September 3 meeting were approved as written.
IV. Impact of Hurricane Ike: Tim provided a written report which is appended to these
minutes.
Dave praised on the responsiveness of city staff and government during the aftermath of
the hurricane, pointing out the use of a roving system for moving generators to service the
lift stations, the trash drop off solution, and the calls from Michael Ross and Bob Kelly
keeping us updated on conditions in the city.
V. Friends Board: No report was submitted.
VI. Bond Election: Russ said that City Council has received an endorsement of the bond
proposal from the City of Houston "Parks People" organization. Chuck Guffey said that he
is encouraging college kids to vote as absentees.
VII. Park Planning Subcommittee
Janine: The plans call for increasing the size of the Colonial Park pool by 60% without
impacting green space.
Tim: Says he is referring callers to both the YES and NO websites, and forwarding
questions to the members of the subcommittee.
Helen asked about the planned hours for the new pool. Tim responded that we are "not
there yet", but that the new Colonial pool would be deep enough for both lap swimming
and diving boards.
Janine said that the Bellaire pool experience of separating the various facilities is not very
popular with the users.
VIII. Movie Night
Janine reported that Movie Night dates are October 17 and October 24. There will be a
press release out next week.
IX. Staff Reports
Tim provided a written report. A copy is appended to these minutes.
X. Board Reports
Helen reported that the trash cans at Whitt Johnson were overflowing over the Labor Day
weekend and asked if another bin could be added.
Dave asked about the status of the winter hours proposal for the Colonial Park pool. Tim
responded that staff needs to make the information available to the users who are
impacted, and look at alternatives. A decision has not been made by City Council.
Brian said that the slide at the Rec Center needs work - there is a hole in the slide. Tim
will look into the situation immediately.
XI. New Business: none
