Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:35pm by Chairman Russ Schulze II. Citizen Comments: None 111. Review and approval of June 3rd minutes: The minutes are to be amended to indicate that Joni Fichter was also in attendance. IV. Friends Board Update: a. Father's and Flashlight letters have been mailed b. Two new board members have been appointed c. Thank you to Brian Feigel and family for donating the overhead climber for Weir Park d. Naming rights information has been provided to City Council for consideration e. Donna almond has been asked to follow up with resident about pavers. V. Parks Acquisition Subcommittee: Russ mentioned that the City was approached by a citizen about a potential property, but it is outside of the zoned area VI. Park Planning Subcommittee a. Russ identified the areas that the Parks Planning Subcommittee recommended reducing costs i. $600k no separate deep water well at WU Rec Center ii. Reduce square footage by 1500 sq. feet iii. Reduce furniture and equipment budget iv. Left 10% contingency cost b. Helen commented that she would like to see Colonial Park Pool open year round and multigenerational. c. Dave commented that the pool staff does a good job at keeping the space flexible in terms of number of lap lanes and temperature. He would like to see an "extended seasonal pool" at Colonial d. Tim commented that there are 19 different user groups all wanting to use one pool and that Brittany and her staff do a good job trying to balance the needs of the different groups e. Russ called for a vote on the proposal to recommend to Council that they call a bond referendum for $13.8 million. The vote was seven in favor one against. Robert and Mardi voted by proxy. (Charles May later cast is vote in support for a total of 8 to l.) f. Helen suggested that she would like to see a second less expensive option and Dave said he would like to see a more expensive one. VII. Staff Reports a. Weir Park playground renovation will start on 8/25/08 b. Weir Park basketball Goal will be installed on 7/11/08 c. New grass installed along Auden. Tim expressed his thanks to Greg Thompson of Thompson and Hansen for helping with this project. d. Summer programs underway, registration up over last summer due to new programs such as iKids e. There was some discussion about the status of Colonial Park Pool this winter including the possibility of closing for several months. Tim presented the cost breakdown of keeping it open and said that staff are looking into the option of getting permission for our swimmers to use UT, Rice or Pershing's pool this winter. VIII. Board Reports a. Parks Ambassador Reports i. Colonial - Dave mentioned that the pool chiller nozzles needed replacement - Tim said they would be working by Friday. Dave also mentioned that there was some mold in the pool deck grout, some of the lawn area was swampy and there is a leak in the ceiling of the dressing rooms. ii. Weir - Brian mentioned that the latch on the gate was still not staying closed. IX. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05.
