Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:35 pm by Chairman Russ Schulze. II. Citizen Comments: None III. February Minutes: The minutes of the February, 2008 meeting were approved as written. IV. Friends Board Report: 1. Joni submitted a written report which is appended to these minutes. 2. She also reported that the Park Lovers Ball was very successful, netting over $127.000. She noted that some parties are still available for purchase. 3. The 2009 Park Lovers Ball is tentatively scheduled for February 21, 2009. 4. Fathers and Flashlights is scheduled for October 4. V. Acquisition Sub-Committee: The sub-committee met on February 20 at 6:30 pm. Janine is preparing a letter to a targeted group of property owners. VI. Park Planning Project 1. Russ reported that Park Planning sub-committee met two weeks ago with PGAL and Carter Burgess. PGAL is working on numbers for various options for both Colonial Park and the Recreation Center. 2. A presentation to Council is being scheduled, to be followed by a public presentation. VII. Staff Reports: Tim O'Connor submitted a written report which was distributed electronically and is appended to this minutes by reference. Tim also presented the plan for a multi-year playground redevelopment project that has been approved by the Friends of West U Parks. Weir Park (Sunset) and Huffington Park will be redeveloped in 2008 and 2009 respectively. Friends has agreed to dedicate a portion of the proceeds from the Park Lovers Ball to this redevelopment effort, which is focused on upgrading playground equipment and park amenities. A presentation packet was distributed to all attendees. Tim reminded us about the Meet The City/Arbor Day/Easter Egg Hunt event scheduled for March 15. He encouraged attendance by all board members. VIII. Board Reports: 1. Colonial Park: Tim reported that the items noted in Charles May's e-mail regarding issues have largely been dealt with. 2. Whitt Johnson: The planting portion of John Lamond's Eagle Scout project will take place on March 8. Helen and Mardi plan to assist. 3. Weir Park: Brian reported that the basketball backboard is in very poor shape. IX. New Business: 1. Tim reported that Texas Parks and Wildlife would like to bring their family camping presentation to the Fathers and Flashlights event. 2. The National Parks and Recreation Association has notified Tim that the Friends of WUP Parks has been selected as the top parks and recreation related civic organization by their Southwest Regional Council. They will also be considered for a top national civic award. X. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm by Chairman Schulze. Our next meeting is scheduled for April 2, 2008 at 6:30 pm.
