Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by Chairman Russ Schulze. II. Citizen Comments: There were no citizen comments. III. November Minutes: The minutes of the December 5, 2007 meeting were approved. IV. Friends Board Report: a. The Friends Board has received a request to assist in funding the installation of a new "tree house" play system at Whitt Johnson Park. The play system itself will be funded by a bequest that was made for improvements at the park. b. Joni reminded us all that the Park Lovers' Ball is coming up soon. There are lots of good auction items and the committee is still accepting items for the auction. V. Acquisition Sub-Committee: The sub-committee has not met. Janine suggested that we enlist the aid of a realtor in identifying potential properties, assuming that there is no legal impediment. Tim will follow up with counsel. VI. Park Planning Project: a. Jacobs Carter & Burgess made its presentation of the survey results to City Council on January 14. The presentation is posted on the city website on the Parks and Recreation Department page. b. The Park Planning sub-committee will meet with Council on January 28 to discuss next steps. c. There was an extended discussion regarding interpretation of the survey results, but all were agreed that we now have hard data and can move forward to the next stage of planning for a possible bond election in November, 2008. VII. Staff Reports: Tim O'Connor reported the following: a. The pool heater at Colonial Park failed last week. PARD and the vendor are working to correct the problem and hope to have the heater in working order shortly. b. Regrading at Colonial Park began on Monday, January 14. c. The renovation work at the Community Building has been completed, adding an office for Susan White and 300 square feet of storage space. d. PARD is working on a five year playground equipment replacement program to be funded with proceeds from the Park Lovers' Ball. The plan is to focus on one park each year. e. Staff has been working to correct several physical problems at Colonial Park ("bumps" and the slide) and at Judson (playground base). f. Brittany is in discussions with the athletic director and principal at Pershing regarding the possible use of their swimming Dool by West U residents. Unfortunately, the Dool is undergoing renovation right now and will not be available for use until late February. Charles asked if there is an ordinance on the books about remote control airplanes. Evidently there are quite a few young "pilots" flying at the east end of Colonial Park and he is concerned about safety. Tim replied that there is no ordinance, but that the situation will be monitored. VIII. Board Reports: a. Brian inquired about the lights on the basketball court at Whitt Johnson. The lights do not go on automatically, but there is a button/switch available to turn the lights on. The lights are automatically turned off at 10 pm. b. Robert had some suggestions about small changes at Colonial Park. He and Tim will do a walk through and discuss his ideas. IX. New Business: Charles reported that the Classical Concert Series is on for spring. The concerts are scheduled for April 11, April 18, and April 25 at Colonial Park. X. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm by Chairman Schulze.
