Minutes from Board of Directors' Meeting
April 6, 1994
1. Treasurer's Report - Jere Ahrens reported that the Friends has $171,000 in the
bank.
2. Approval of Minutes of 3/2/94 - Motion made by Bob Geary, 2nd by Donna Buja
3. Committee Reports:
a. Foundations - Bob Geary
Bob asked that we call him with the name(s) of foundations that we consider
very good prospects and who we are willing to contact. We can leave a message with
his secretary, 796-8314. He will prepare the letter to that foundation for the Friends
signature and personal message. A question was raised as to the amount to ask for in
each letter. The consensus was that we should ask for a specific amount and that
each foundation is a special case. The amount asked for will be decided by the
Friends trustee doing the asking and Bob.
b. Parkfest - Carolyn Rappozzo and Linda Masera
Carolyn asked for volunteers.
Linda reported that more sponsors are needed. As yet, she and Connie have
not heard from Compass Bank who was the two previous years' grand sponsor. The
list of potential sponsors was passed around for the Friends to see if they knew
anyone that they could call to ask to become a sponsor.
Coca-Cola is donating $500 and giving the Parks Board a discount on product
consumed at Parkfest.
The trolley route has been approved by City Hall. Girl Scouts will be used as
conductors. Trolley pick-up signs will be placed at intervals along the route.
Kathy Eason designed the Parkfest poster. Larry Massey will put a copy of the
poster in next City Currents.
West University Bank is donating its tellers to count money and tickets.
C. Park Lovers' Ball - no report.
d. Grassroots - Mark Spradling
Mark is mailing a new flyer about the park pavers to every household in West
University in the next month. Vinson Elkins is printing the flyers. They will be mailed
bulk rate. Mark will handle mailing the flyers.
4. Nominations for Friends Board - tabled until May
5. Funds available to W. U. P& R.B. - tabled until May
6. New/other business - none
7. Adjournment - Mark Spradling moved; 2nd by Bob Geary
