HomeMy WebLinkAboutFBMINUTES120193Friends of West University Place Parks Fund, Inc. * Board of Directors' Meeting December 1, 1993 * MINUTES ATTENDANCE: Mark Mailes, Bob Geary, Beverly Lo.~is, ~ Donna Bu'a, Cora Bess Parks, Ginni Mithoff; Jeanne Marosis, Ross Frazer, Larry Massey, Gayle Jackson, Odette Mace, Connie Spencer (board members in italics) L The meeting was called to order at 6:25 p.m. by Ross Frazer. Jere Ahrens was unable to attend therefore, no treasurer's report was available. 2. Approval of Minutes of 11/03/93 - motion by Beverly Loftis, 2nd by Bob Geary, passed unanimously 3. Committee Reports: a. Foundations - Ross Frazer and Bob Geary - Ross Frazer reported that the Wortham Foundation had awarded the Friends a grant of $50,000. The trustees expressed some concern that the Friends had had no other foundation participation. Bob Geary reported he was in the process of divvying up a list of potential donor foundations for the Friends to contact. He passed the list around and asked those present to indicate whether they had knowledge of or wanted to contact a particular foundation. He will distribute three foundation names along with information regarding grant applications to each member after the first of the year. b. Parkfest - Connie Spencer and Linda Masera - Connie reported she will begin her ParkFest planning and have a full slate for the January meeting. c. Park Lovers' Ball - Gayle Jackson, Chair; Ginni Mithoff, Past Chair - Gayle reported that planning is well underway. She implored all the Friends to return the lists for solications to her so the contact lists can be prepared. Ginni reminded everyone we cannot have too many underwriters. d. Grassroots - Mark Spradling - Mark was out of town and thus unable to attend the meeting. Connie Spencer brought up the idea of providing the opportunity to purchase a paver as a gift and being able to give the recipient a certificate acknowledging the placement of the paver in a certain park. Larry Massey & Cora Bess Parks volunteered to implement this and design a certificate. 0 Ornaments - Donna Buja - Donna had another example of the type of ornaments available. Ginni Mithoff motioned that 100 ornaments ($4.50 each) be purchased to be sold for $10.00 at Parkfest. Bob Geary 2nded and the motion passed unanimously. These will also be sold at the West U. Elementary Carnival in the fall of 1994. 5. Corporation Solicitations - Linda Gray - Linda was unable to attend but had related to Ross Frazer that the Enron foundation had postponed their meeting until after the first of the year. 6. New/other business - Jeanne Marosis outlined the plans being made for the Lovers' Ball info to be printed in the January City Currents and also for the brochure update mailing. Larry Massey volunteered that any underwriters can be acknowledged in City Currents. 7. Adjournment - motion by Bob Geary, 2nd by Mark Mailes, passed unanimously @ 7:25 pm.
