Board of Directors' Meeting October 6, 1993 MINUTES ATTNEDANCE: Linda Gray, Beverly Loftis, Mark Spradling, Mark Mailes, Donna Buja, Jere Ahrens, Ginni Mithoff, Gayle Jackson, Jeanne Marosis, Cora Bess Parks 1. Treasurer's Report - approximately $80,000 2. Approval of Minutes of 9/1/93 mtg - motion by Mark Spradling; second by Beverly Loftis; approved unanimously 3. Committee Reports: a. Foundations - Ross Frazer Application will be made to Wortham Foundation (due date: 10/15/93); information for '93 - '94 approaches will be mailed out with minutes/meeting notice f/November meeting. Linda Gray will investigate solicitations for grants from corporations. b. Parkfest No report - still looking for chairperson c. Park Lovers' Ball - Gayle Jackson, Chair Still looking for auction/solicitations chair. Gayle reiterated request for solicitation and/or underwriting requests. Both FWUP & P&RB will be given solicitations list. This list is to be reviewed by FWUP & P&RB, marked with the individual board member's choices for vendors to contact and returned to Gayle. The auction/solicitations chair/committee will compile this data and assign to FWUP board and advisory board members those persons' choices and any "leftovers" which there might be. Ginni Mithoff reported that underwriting requests have commenced. Any ideas or questions in this area should be directed to Ginni. Jeanne Marosis reported that W. U. Magazine will tie in the decorative "birdhouse" theme with an article in their 2/1994 issue along with a sidebar about the Ball. It is possible some coverage from the Chronicle's society section might be available. Send/call any ideas regarding publicity to Jeanne Marosis. Any ideas about auction items or underwriters should be directed to Gayle Jackson or Ginni Mithoff. d. Grassroots (Pavers, T-shirts, etc.) Mark Spradling reported that reports of the latest donors had been sent to our normal media outlets. Additionally, Mark is planning a dedication ceremony for the pavers. The tentative date is 11/13/93. The time is to be announced. Discussion about lowering the price of the pavers concluded with the idea that no adjustment should be made to the price at this time. Friends of West University Place Parks Fund, Inc. New/other business Since FWUP's former secretary, Larry Massey, is now the Communications Committee Chair, he was not reappointed as a Friends' Board member. The floor was opened for nominations to the Secretary's position. Mark Mailes nominated Mark Spradling and the nomination was seconded by Ginni Mithoff. Mark Spradling was elected unanimously. Donna Buja introduced the idea of selling a "West U. Parks" Christmas ornament. The general idea about selling craft items was discussed but no action taken. Mark Spradling brought up the idea of selling pavers and tee shirts at the W. U. Elementary Halloween Carnival. Since that carnival is pending, the idea will be readdressed at this time next year. 6.
