HomeMy WebLinkAbout060109R CC Min((010 The City of West University Place A Neighborhood City CITY COUNCIL Bob Kelly, Mayor Bob Fry, Council member George Boehme, Councilmember Steven Segal, Councilmember Chuck Guffey, Councilmember STAFF Michael Ross, City Manager Alan Petrov, City Attorney Thelma Lenz, City Secretary CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES City Council of the City of West University Place, Texas, met in special session Monday, June 1, 2009, in the Municipal Building Council Chambers, 3800 University Boulevard, West University Place, Texas beginning at 6:00 p.m. Council and staff in attendance: Mayor Kelly, Mayor Pro Tern Fry, and Councilmembers Cohen and Guffey, Councilmember Elect Boehme, Councilmember Elect Segal, City Manager Ross, City Secretary Lenz, City Attorney Petrov, Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director Peifer, Fire Chief Ralls, Human Resources Director Standorf, Parks and Recreation Director O'Connor, and Police Chief Walker. Notice of the meeting was duly posted in accordance with the Texas Government Code, Chapter 551. CALL TO ORDER Mayor Kelly called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Agenda items were taken out of agenda order as follows: 1. Please of Allegiance Pledge of Allegiance - Led by Mayor Kelly Pledge to the Texas Flag - Led by Councilmember Guffey 2. Comments by Outgoing and Incoming Council Members Comments were made by outgoing Councilmember Cohen who said that it was a pleasure to serve with this and the former Council, as well as staff; and, she asked that the new Council give priority to the police facility. 3. Administration of Oaths of Office to newly Elected Council The Oaths of Office will be administered by the Honorable Ed Emmett, Harris County Judge. The Honorable Ed Emmett gave the Oaths of Office to the newly elected Council. The new members then took their seats and said a few words. Mayor Kelly read and presented a plaque to former Councilmember Cohen for her service and dedication to the City. Former Councilmember Talianchich was not present, but Mayor Kelly noted that Mr. Talianchich's service and dedication was also appreciated. 4. Selection of a Mayor Pro Tem Matters related to the selection of a Mayor Pro Tem. Councilmember Boehme moved to approve the appointment of Bob Fry to serve as Mayor Pro Tem. Councilmember Chuck Guffey seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED. City Council Minutes, June 1, 2009 Ayes: Kelly, Fry, Boehme, Segal, and Guffey Noes: None Absent: None 5. Adjournment Councilmember Segal moved to adjourn the special meeting at 6:20 p.m. Mayor Pro Tem Fry seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED. Ayes: Kelly, Fry, Boehme, Segal, and Guffey Noes: None Absent: None 6.
