D. Wickerham Oscar Kotteman Florence Worstell CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Jane Breazeal at 3:25 p.m. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the Secretary. Presence or absence was as listed above. MINUTES: The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved after Anna Turner noted that Meals on Wheels would be delivered July 3 to cover both July 3rd and July 4th. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Bayou Bend visit is sold out - 45 Seniors will make the trip to Bayou Bend, return for lunch (Picnic) and proceed to the Ship Channel. Cost - $7.00 per person. On June 24, two films will be shown. One is called, "You're in Control - Americans and the Law", followed by a question and answer period led by Dahlia Stokes. Another on Elderhostel will by followed by questions and answers led by Elizabeth McRoberts. In July, Barbara Ownsby will give a "no salt & talk" luncheon for the Stroke Group. Joan said that the City is prepared to pay for Meals on Wheels for 5 needy Seniors in West University. Mrs. Turner will bill the City each month. Wednesday, July 8 there will be a talk on nursing homes followed by lunch. Minutes--Senior Services Board--June 11, 1987--Page 2 MONTHLY REPORT: Joan read the monthly report (attached). APAC REPORT: No report given. TREASURER'S REPORT: Report was given by Ken Pearce: Received $297.00 Spent $436.00 Balance $1,509.60 MEALS ON WHEELS: Mrs. Turner reports she has plenty of money. She has lost a faith- ful driver who died suddenly. She would like to buy Hydergine more cheaply for those who need this medication for Parkinson's Disease and for memory loss. At present it costs $50.00 per month per prescription. Two persons take this medication. (CCS helps with utilities but not with medicines.) Mrs. Turner, as usual, has been taking care of emergencies for her clients in her own wonderful way. We salute her. GARDEN CLUB: Joan noted that begonias have been planted outside the building. Thank you Garden Club! OLD BUSINESS: Re - adding $1.00 to utility bill: The group decided to word the announcement in City Currents saying the help on utility bill payments will be limited to Senior Citizens demonstrating a need - "Qualifying". Joan Eccles is to determine if persons qualify. Bingo Fee: Dottie Shaw asked for permission to charge an additional dollar for an additional Bingo card at the games. It was moved and seconded to grant the request. Van Update: City Council has OK'd the plans and it goes out for bids soon. Budget: Joan needs: A driver for the van A computer and printer A large TV on wheels Minutes--Senior Services Board--Page 3 NEW BUSINESS: Speaking Engagements: Joan is speaking at church luncheons informing the area residents of the functions of Senior Services. Maybe it will bring volunteers for driving and repair work. DISCUSSION: Re- Rules on Renting the Building: Curtis thinks we ask too much rent. Joan says she feels we should not rent it at all because those who have used it have not taken care of it and have left it in bad condition. Mr. Smith suggested that a down payment of $200.00 (for re- pairs and clean up) be charged renters. A city employee should be present while renters are here.
