D. Wickerham Florence Worstell ABSENT: Elizabeth McRoberts, Secretary Harold Smith CALL TO ORDER: Meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. by Jane Breazeal. ROLL CALL: Roll was checked by the Acting Secretary. MINUTES: Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Valentine Luncheon will be hosted by St. George Orthodox Church on Friday, February 12 at 11:30. Reservations total 155 to date. There is no charge. AARP tax help available for Seniors each Friday from 10:30 - 2:30, through April 15. At first session eight Seniors were helped by five Accountants present. Fine Arts Museum Lecture & Slide Show scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 25 for Seniors. The following day, Friday, February 26 there will be a van trip to the Museum. "A Morning of Dance and Art". Refreshments will be served. March "Fifty -five Alive" Driving Course scheduled for lst and 2nd Thursday, 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. There is a $7.00 charge for the course. Seminar on city sewer replacement program scheduled for February 24, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. in Senior Services Assembly Room. Minutes--Senior Services Board--February 11, 1988--Page 2 MONTHLY REPORT: Joan read her monthly report (attached). TREASURER'S REPORT: Balance January 31, 1988 $1,184.71 APAC REPORT: Report from Mr. Wickerham, APAC Representative from West University Place. MEALS ON WHEELS: Mrs. Turner showed her new route work sheets and Valentine Presen- tation Kits made by Girl Scout Troop 5018 for each of the fifty meal recipients. She praised highly this group of eight-year-old Scouts for their work. She reported that 5 of the current meal participants live at Blair House on Bellaire Blvd. GARDEN CLUB REPORT: Report was given by Florence Worstell, who stated that program for City Beautification Project had not been finalized. OLD BUSINESS: Van Problem Work that was needed has been completed. Brochure Has been mailed. Computer Program of needs presented by Joan Eccles to Donna Sims and Joan felt she was receptive to presentation, but as of today no action has been taken by City. Van Drivers A number of volunteers are presently serving as drivers. Bingo Dottie Shaw reported that there were 53 Seniors present at the last session and that all expenses for Bingo are being met through contributions for cards by players. Minutes--Senior Services Board--February 11, 1988--Page 3 NEW BUSINESS: Games Day Still trying, but so far unsuccessful in getting group started. Square Dance Suggestion made that perhaps Recreation Dept. might take over advanced dancers' group and that beginning Seniors be con- centrated on by Senior Services. Ukulele Band Going great and enjoying themselves and looking for places to perform. March Meeting Since Joan will be gone 2nd Thursday, meeting re-scheduled for March 17. Protective Services Has worked with a number of Seniors. Currently helping one alcohol dependent and working with Senior who has had severe utility bill difficulties. Language Classes Feasibility of offering basic English/Spanish for Seniors will be explored. ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, E.
