APAC REPORT TO WEST UNIVERSITY SENIOR BOARD - 3/17/88
March meeting on Thursday, the 3rd at 8000 Stadium Drive. Committee
meetings were held before general meeting in order that items could be
discussed in general meeting at once - rather than wait until next
month.
The Nutritional Transportation Committee is investigating a "Quick-
Chill" food handling service so meals can be better when delivered.
Delivery costs continue to exceed food costs. Seven (7) new vans
will replace old vehicles. Training for center directors and food
handlers is being intensified.
Siver-Haired Legislature candidates have short time to announce -
candidates will come to April meeting.
A recent change in Medicare by-laws may affect a claim on property -
this is new and not well understood.
3/10 Attended Texas State Comminsion on Aging at City Hall. First
ever held away from Austin. Very general discussions.
3/17 APAC Proposal Committee met with Mayor's representatives in
City Hall. Discussion on how to be effective with Houston City
Council and better carry out our responsibilities. Quarterly infor-
mation to Council.

Subject: Senior Service Van Fund
You will recall that contributions were made by citizens several
months ago to a Van Fund for Senior Services. The van has since been
budgeted and purchased through annual appropriations. We have
$1,369.65 accumulated in that account.
As Joan has indicated those contributors have authorized an alternate
use of the collected funds. Joan would like to purchase a personal
computer for record keeping purposes. This purchase would tie in
with our overall data processing plan since we eventually wanted to
tie recreation and senior services in to our system.
The purchase of I.B.M. equipment would allow us to take advantage of
the sizeable state discount, in addition to being compatible with our
existing hardware. Purchase of this item would have no budget
impact, since funds are available in the Citizens Contribution Senior
Services Account 401-00-00-8455. A budget amendment would be
required at year end to allow for the revenue transfer and the
additional expenditure.
Total cost for the purchase follows:
Personal System 2
Model 30, 640 k
2 Floppy Disks
(includes 37% discount)
