Wickerham Florence Worstell Dalia Stokes Dottie Shaw ABSENT: Ken Pearce, Treasurer Doris Ramey CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Jane Breazeal, at 3:30 p.m. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the Secretary. MINUTES: Minutes of last meeting were read silently by every member. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Baseball tickets are available at $1.25 for three games - the first one is May 1st. Silver-Haired Legislature election is 5/24, 10-3 Square dance - discontinued - dancers unable to keep up with caller Houston Mayor's Showcase on Aging - Thursday & Friday, May 5 & 6 Medicare Changes - Panel of Doctors - 5/11, 2-4 p.m. MONTHLY REPORT: Joan gave her monthly report, copy of which is attached. Minutes--Senior Services Board--April--Page 2 TREASURER'S REPORT: Report was given by Dalia Stokes. Balance, February 29 $1,187.34 Deposits 977.99 Disbursements 2,064.82 Balance, March 31 100.51 Note: Deposit of 4/4/88 of $1,048.00 brought balance to $1,081.95 as of that date. APAC REPORT: Report was given by Mr. Wickerham, copy of which is attached. 30 legislators talked at the meeting for the Silver-Haired Legislature election. They are needed and useful. They would like to hear from those they will represent. They will be here Tuesday, May 24, 10-3. MEALS ON WHEELS: Report was given by Anna Lay Turner. Everything is going well. GARDEN CLUB: Report was given by Mrs. Worstell. The club will go on Pilgrimage to the Mercer Gardens on April 26. 61 people - many seniors are going. Installation of officers will be in May. OLD BUSINESS: Computer: Joan's husband is asking for a breakdown of what we are getting with the computer. Games Day: Games Day will be Wednesday, May 18, 10-2 p.m., and there will also be a luncheon and the Silver-Haired Legislature candidates will speak. NEW BUSINESS: Museum of Fine Arts Senior Programs: These programs will be every 4th Friday. Seniors will be taken in the van. The next program will be The Beck Collection. Charge is $2.00, and it starts at 10:00 a.m. Minutes--Senior Services Board--April--Page 3 NEW BUSINESS--Continued Long Term Insurance Seminar: A San Jacinto Savings representative will speak on Monday, June 20, 3-4 p.m. Banjo Show: The Banjo Show will be in Galveston in the Strand Theatre on Saturday, August 6th at 2:00 p.m. - charge, $4.00. Joan would like to take a group. Photography Class: Class will be started by Fred Jenkins on Wednesday afternoons. Singing Seniors: The Ukulele Band needs singers to accompany them at performances. Harris County Community Development: A lady gave an interview to The Village Life about her house remodelling. NOTES: Nan has a new brochure ready to go the printer. The Health Fair is coming up on Tuesday, April 19, 10-2. A new foot doctor will be present. Cholesterol testing will be free. Lunch will be served for $1.00. Joan needs volunteer help. Joan needs canned fruit and tuna for the pantry. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Leah McRoberts, Secretary APPROVED: Jane Breazeal, Chairperson WEST UNIVERSITY SENIOR BOARD - APRIL 14, 1988 APAC MEETING - APRIL 7, 1988 The regular monthly meeting of the Area Planning Advisory Committee was held at the City of Houston Health Offices, 8000 N. Stadium Drive. Regular sub-committees met in short session, and then the open session was given over entirely to the presentation of some 20 candidates for the Silver-Haired Legislature. Each spoke to the meeting and later answered questions. The general feeling was the Silver-Haired Legislature will be useful and should be sup- ported in their work with the regular legislators. The Mayor's Showcase on Aging will be held May 5 and 6 at the Brown Convention Center. A booth will present APAC activities.
