D. Wickerham Florence Worstell ABSENT: Ken Pearce, Treasurer Doris Ramey Dottie Shaw Dalia Stokes Senior Services Board met at the home of Gene Hines, 3748 Rice Blvd. at 3:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the Secretary. Doris Ramey was unable to attend because her husband is ill. Dottie Shaw is ill. Jane Breazeal read a note from Doris Ramey thanking us. MINUTES: June minutes were read by the Secretary, and approved. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. Joan said the pictures by the photography class may be seen in the Senior Wing. It was a very successful class. 2. The Galveston trip is very popular. Two bus loads of people are going. 3. The Ice Cream Social on August 25 will be popular and will feature a lady giving a Crime Prevention Seminar from 3:00-4:00. MONTHLY REPORT: Joan gave her fine monthly report - attached. (Note: There are 2 nurses rather than 3 from The University of Texas Nursing School.) TREASURER'S REPORT: Ken Pearce is moving from West University. His Treasurer's reports (May and June) were attached to the June minutes. Minutes--Senior Services Board--July--Page 2 APAC REPORT: Report given by Mr. Wickerham. The meeting this a.m. was given over to letters read regarding bids to provide services. APAC is responsible for telling the agency how to use money. City Council of Houston makes final decision regarding distribution of monies for services. Report of June meeting is attached. MEALS ON WHEELS: Mrs. Turner is very proud of her drivers and her service. We are very proud of her. OLD BUSINESS: Partition for Senior Wing: Gene drew up a plan for partitions for the Senior Wing. The City planned a wall that differs, so Joan will ask the City to take a look at Gene Hines' plan. Luau: The Luau was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed it immensely. NEW BUSINESS: Certificate of Appreciation: Precinct 3 Commissioner, Elizabeth L. Ghrist, awarded the Community Center of West University a Certificate of Appreciation for out- standing contributions and endeavors to our community. R.S.V.P. (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) Gene Hines suggested we look at this more thoroughly before we consider it. Joan is to send a copy of it to Dalia Stokes. Senior Services Board: Florence Worstell is willing to do Ken Pearce's work as Treasurer. Joan is going to suggest a person to City Council to fill the vacancy on the Board. Jane Breazeal passed around a petition concerning Madalyn O'Hare to be studied. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m. after a very enjoyable meeting at Gene Hines' home. Respectfully submitted, Leah McRoberts, Secretary APPROVED: Jane Breazeal, Chairperson APAC REPORT June 14, 1988 The monthly meeting of the Area Planning Advisory Council (APAC) was held this morning at the City of Houston Health Offices. The meeting was given over entirely to the reading of the results of the applications to provide various services for the aging for fiscal year 1988-89, beginning October 1, 1988. Any applicant could be pre- sent to hear the result of their bid to supply services. The next step will be the presentation of these results to the Houston City Council for acceptance or rejection.
