Wickerham Florence Worstell ABSENT: Elizabeth McRoberts, Secretary Doris Ramey Senior Services Board met in the Loggia, Senior Services Center, at 3:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the Acting Secretary. MINUTES: September minutes were read by the members, and approved as written. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. Bayou City Preservation Jazz Band - Monday, October 24, 7:30 p.m. - approximately 60 reservations to date - hope for more - up to 140. 2. HCHA Home Rehab Program - Wednesday, October 26, 2:00-3:00 p.m. - good program which needs to be paid heed to. 3. 55 Alive Defensive Driving - Fridays, October 21 & 28, 8:30-12:30 p.m. 4. Health Fair - Tuesday, November 1, 10:00-2:00 - 23 exhibits and 11 screenings including teeth and diet. No lunch will be served - only refreshments. All tests will be free. Dentists and dietitians will be present. 5. Sea World Trip - Wed. & Thurs., November 9 and 10. $95.00 - overnight trip. Stay at Raddison/Gunter Hotel - 20 reser- vations to date - room for total of 45. Minutes--Senior Services Board--October 20, 1988--Page 2 MONTHLY REPORT: The monthly report was given by Joan Eccles, our coordinator. The report continues to demonstrate the many and various activities planned and carried out by Joan, the staff and volunteers. TREASURER'S REPORT: Ken Pearce reported a balance in the Treasury of $1,437.06 as of September 30, 1988. APAC REPORT: Mr. Wickerham reported that there were three speakers at meeting, representing Democrat, Republican and Libertarian Parties. No business transacted. MEALS ON WHEELS REPORT: Report by Anna Lay Turner. The drivers and workers are assisting patrons with absentee voting in their homes. Visiting Nurses Association program was outlined. Meals on Wheels is assisting with VNA survey to help identify possible clients. GARDEN CLUB REPORT: Report by Florence Worstell. Club to meet soon with covered dish luncheon. The Garden Club Christmas Party is scheduled for December 15, 1988. OLD BUSINESS: Buffalo Bayou Trip: Did not make because of lack of interest. Pantry: Supplies sent to Christian Community Center and were re- ceived appreciatively, since no need has been demonstrated here. Round Dance: A success. Elderhostel & Holcombe-Lindquist Luncheon: Elizabeth McRoberts program was well received. Student Nurses: Doing excellent job, much beyond the call of duty. Computer: Due to problems at City Hall, order for computer was mis- placed, but has now been re-ordered. Minutes--Senior Services Board--October 20, 1988--Page 3 NEW BUSINESS: Volunteer Luncheon: Wednesday, November 16 at noon honoring Senior Services Volunteers. Flu Shots: Faith Lutheran Nutrition Site, Friday, November 4 - Call 666-6471 for reservation, $4.00 charge. Publicity: West U. Magazine, Village Life & "Best Places to Retire in 80's" all carried stories about our activities. Funds Left for Christmas Party: Moved by Gene Hines to donate up to $400.00 to help defray cost of Christmas Party. The motion was seconded by D. Stokes and approved unanimously. Ken Pearce: Ken announced his move from the city and is turning fi- nancial records over to the new Treasurer, Florence Worstell, as of this date. He also told the Board that Dalia Stokes has received Board Certification in the legal field areas of Trusts and Wills, a commendable accomplishment for our fellow Board Member. Board Appreciation of Ken Pearce: The Board wished Ken Pearce well in his new home, and ex- pressed its appreciation for his dedicated work for Senior Services, especially in the.matter of the van acquisi- tion and his work as Treasurer.
