D. Wickerham Senior Services Board met in the Loggia, Senior Services Center, at 3:45 p.m. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the Secretary. MINUTES: October minutes were read by Gene Hines. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. Trip to Origional Christmas Store - Tuesday, November 30, 1:00 to 3:00 2. Trip to Galleria 3. Trip to Sharpstow 4. Christmas Pageant 5. Christmas Lights 6. Christmas Party - - Friday, December 2, 10:00 - 1:00 a - Tuesday, December 6, 1:00 - 4:00 Sunday, December 4 & 11, 2:30 p.m. - December 12 - 16 (one evening) December 20, Tuesday, 10-1:00 p.m. St. George Orthodox Church MONTHLY REPORT: The monthly report was given by Joan Eccles. Thursday is the heaviest day for drivers. Senior Services could use more drivers. Minutes--Senior Services Board--November 17, 1988--Page 2 TREASURER'S REPORT: Report was given by Florence Worstell. Balance September 30, 1988 $1,437.06 Deposits 2,129.00 Disbursements 106.33 Service Charge .56 Balance October 31, 1988 $3,459.17 APAC REPORT: Report by Mr. Wickerham, copy attached. There are twenty-eight APAC groups in the state. Silver Haired Legislators want APAC groups to voice needs for their guidance. MEALS ON WHEELS REPORT: Report by Anna Lay Turner. Hot meals for Thanksgiving Dinners will be provided by JMH at their cost - provided on real plates. The Mary Martha Class of West University Baptist Church is providing 5 pieces of fresh fruit for Meals on Wheels for this week. Mrs. Turner's Dentist, Dr. Goodale, 2515 Rice Blvd., has provided her clients with toothbrushes with rubber tips. GARDEN CLUB REPORT: Report by Florence Worstell. Garden Club will meet for Christmas Dinner at noon on December 15th. OLD BUSINESS: Volunteer Luncheon: The Volunteer Luncheon was a huge success. Everything was delicious and Joan was so gracious in thanking everyone for jobs done. Senior Services got a new van driver that day. Sea World Trip: Thirty people - 2 in wheel chairs - took the trip which was enjoyed by everyone. Joan did a wonderful job of keeping everyone together. NEW BUSINESS: Christmas Boxes for City Hall Christmas Tree: We will meet December 5 (Monday) to wrap the boxes to go under the tree at City Hall. Thanksgiving Dinner: Ninety-two will eat Thanksgiving Dinner here prepared and served by Bellaire High School National Honor Society. Minutes--Senior Services Board--November 17, 1988--Page 3 New Business--Continued Adult Protective Services: Persons have to be declared legally incompetent before they can give real assisstance to those who need help but refuse it. Golden Age Manor on Rookin: Golden Age is asking for volunteers to answer calls to Mr. & Mrs. Santa at their Place. Children call in to talk to Mr. or Mrs. Santa. Perhaps we can arrange to have Ho Ho Hotline at our Senior Services Center. Sharon Reusser, activities director at Golden Age Manor, requests our help. Jane Breazeal read Ken Pearce's letter of resignation to City Council. We sent him a card. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 5:05 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Leah McRoberts, Secretary APPROVED: Jane Breazeal, Chairperson APAC - AREA PLANNING ADVISORY COUNCIL November 3, 1988 The November APAC meeting was held on the 3rd at the Health Center. Much effort is going into the plans for the Thanksgiving meal. Several companies (Southwestern Bell, Bristol-Myers, Seagram's, HL&P) have made financial contributions and volunteers are being organized. Ombudsman committee reported there are 47 nursing homes with assigned trained ombudsmen. All nursing homes should be covered early in '89. Support services continue working on minor home repairs on an emer- gency basis in many areas. A $5,000.00 grant to increase literacy has been received. Transportation is being provided for people need- ing flu shots. Transporation committee reported improved mainte- nance programs are extending vehicle usefulness about a year. Silver Haired Legislature people want the APAC groups to voice needs for their guidance.
