D. Wickerham Doris Ramey Harold Smith Senior Services Board met in the Loggia, Senior Services Center, at 3:40 p.m. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the Secretary. MINUTES: November minutes were read silently, and approved. ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. Joan Eccles announced the need for Ho Ho Hotline Volunteers. 2. Christmas Pageant, Sunday December 4 and 1.1, 2:30 p.m. 3. Christmas Lights Trip, Wednesday December 14, 7:00 p.m., $3.00. 4. Christmas Party, Tuesday December 20, 10-1:00, St. George Orthodox Church. A. Need volunteers to pick up donated items from merchants. B. Need volunteers to serve at luncheon. MONTHLY REPORT: Joan read her monthly report stating that the staff had driven 84 people last month. Mr. Wickerham thinks staff should have more help with driving. TREASURER'S REPORT: Report, attached, was read by Florence Worstell. Minutes--Senior Services Board--December 8, 1988--Page 2 APAC REPORT: Report by Mr. Wickerham, copy attached. Mr. Wickerham noted that APAC has no money in the bank at present. MEALS ON WHEELS REPORT: Report by Anna Lay Turner. Meals on Wheels program will be 10 years old February 1. Mrs. Turner has drivers available on short notice. On Thanksgiving at $3.50 per meal the clients received one meal frozen, one unfrozen. The meals were the best available. Mrs. Turner instructed her clients as to how to vote by mail. St. Vincents will deliver a hot meal on Christmas Day. They took 2900 meals to Med Center last year. The Secretary will write a thank-you letter to the Bellaire High School National Honor Society for their Thanksgiving Dinner. GARDEN CLUB REPORT: Florence Worstell reported the Garden Club will have Christmas Dinner December 15 in the Loggia. OLD BUSINESS: Computer: The computer will be shipped tomorrow; the printer, the middle of January. NEW BUSINESS: New Board Member: Randy Hardy will be installed in Ken Pearce's place on the Board. Jane Breazeal talked with him. He drives on Thursday mornings. Automobile Wreck: A borrowed car (from City Hall) being used by Mr. McMurrey (volunteer) for Senior Services was demolished in a freakish accident. The Senior Services car is in need of repair. The food supplied by Woodmen of the World Lodge is being given to Christian Community Center. Mr. Wickerham will contact Mr. Henderson to ask him to meet with us in January. He is our Silver-Haired Legislator. Minutes--Senior Services Board--December 8, 1988--Page 3 ADJOURNMENT: The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Leah McRoberts, Secretary APPROVED: Jane Breazeal, Chairperson AREA PLANNING ADVISORY COUNCIL The final 1988 meeting of the APAC was held at the Health Department on December 1. The nominating committee presented their slate of new officers for the coming year and all were elected. Staff reported the "Home" meal program was very successful - 2400 meals being delivered to people without families. Southwest Airlines again presented 25 round trips for two people to any of their scheduled destinations. This is a very popular event. Committee reports were dispensed with and meeting was entertained by the Hispanic Social Workers.
