SENIOR SERVICES BOARD
April 13, 1989

Senior Services Board met in the loggia of the Community
Building.
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal
at 3:35 p.m.
ROLL CALL:
Roll was called by the Secretary and all were present except
M. D. Wickerham and Doris Ramey.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes were read by the Secretary and approved as read.
Included in the reports is one to City Council, as they
requested, outlining our work over the past two years.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Defensive Driving will be Friday, April 21 and 28, 9-1.
Student nurses last day is Tuesday, May 2.
Old Town Spring/Mercer Arboretum Trip is Thursday,
May 4, 9-4 for $16.00, including lunch.
The Twelve Oaks Hospital Senior Club is a public service
club organized to disseminate information for senior
citizens. It will meet here May 5 and June 2, 11:30-1,
and will serve food cooked at the hospital. There will be
a speaker for each meeting with Gayle Anderson the first
meeting's speaker.
Houston Mayor's Showcase on Aging is May 25 & 26. Senior
Services will take a van full of people on the 26th.

Announcements--Continued
Joan's vacation is May 6 - 21. There will not be a
May meeting.
Investments, Wills and Probate Seminars will be Thursday,
May 25, June 1 and 8, 11-12:30. Speakers are
Barbara Di Georgio and Michael Jepson.
The Flag Day Luncheon will be Wednesday, June 14, 10-1.
Evening Bridge cancelled on May 8 for Open House for new
City Council.
MONTHLY REPORT:
Joan gave the monthly report (attached).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Report, attached, was by Randy Hardy.
APAC REPORT:
The report was read by Joan Eccles in Mr. Wickerham's
absence.
MEALS ON WHEELS REPORT:
Report given by Anna Lay Turner. One of her clients was
provided a notebook for all visitors and helpers going to her
home to make notes in because the client has loss of memory.
Anna commended Senior Services for supplying a helper.
After the Little League Barbecue, the Meals on Wheels program
was given left over bread and homemade cake.
A 91 year old lady is a new client who is very grateful for
her service.
GARDEN CLUB REPORT:
Florence Worstell reported that the Garden Club had a nice
home meeting with miniature flower show. Next meeting,
April 25th, will be a trip to Galveston.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Joan says Tommy Bryant is very competent; he was
promised a raise but has not received it. There will
be a letter written in his behalf to City Council from
our Board.
2. Joan turned in three volunteers, Dottie Shaw, Marie
Fish and Charles McMurrey, to be honored at the
Houston Volunteer Dinner.

New Business--Continued
3. Terry Eccles suggested using the computer to call shut-
ins each day. If they pick up the phone, it will show
they are home and able to answer.
4. Lisa Donnell donated a beautiful piano. Joan will
accept another piano donated by Mr. Lang.
5. Bellaire's Office on Aging hired Susan Lehrer as their
new director.
6. Golden Age Manor will hold garage sale May 5 and 6,
coordinated by Sharon Reusser, ph. 774-9736, to make
money for supplies.

The meeting adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
