D. Wickerham Florence Worstell Senior Services Board met in the loggia of the Community Building. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal at 3:30 p.m. ROLL CALL: Roll was called by the Secretary and all were present. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: The minutes were read by the Secretary and approved as read. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The announcements were read by Joan Eccles. 1. Lifeline Seminar will be Friday, June 9, 10 a.m. 2. Flag Day Luncheon, Wednesday, June 14, 10-1 - program - Bellaire Balladiers and a pianist 3. 55-Alive Defensive Driving - Fridays, June 16 and June 23, 9-1 4. Facial, Friday, June 16, 10-noon 5. Social Security Office Representative on Catastrophic Insurance and SSI - catastrophic insurance and Medicare to be discussed - June 22, 10:30-noon 6. Fine Arts Museum Trip for French Art and Harpsichord Program, Friday, June 30, 10-noon 7. 12 Oaks Hospital Luncheon and Program, Minutes--June 8, 1989--Page 2 Announcements--Continued Friday, July 7, 11:30-1:30 8. Galveston Banjo Concert, August 5 MONTHLY REPORT: Joan gave the monthly report (attached). TREASURER'S REPORT: Report, attached, was given by Randy Hardy. Dottie Shaw made a motion that we take $52.93 from the account to pay for flowers for Tommy's wife's funeral. It was seconded and passed. APAC REPORT: Mr. Wickerham gave the APAC report and said a new director is forthcoming. There were complaints about the cost of food at the Showcase on Aging, resulting in some companies giving food away. Houston City Council controls the money spent. There is some controversy going on regarding that spending. The Showcase on Aging was attended by 15 of our residents. Dalia Stokes thought it was very informative for the public. There is a 1-800 number for Seniors to call to obtain legal advice or information. MEALS ON WHEELS REPORT: Anna Lay Turner reported Meals on Wheels gets no federal assistance - fortunately. There are 22 areas in Houston. The nurses are missed by Meals on Wheels clients. They are very much appreciated. Every other Friday Randy Hardy's Sunday School Class supplies fresh fruit and crackers for the recipients. GARDEN CLUB REPORT: Florence Worstell reported the Galveston trip was successful. Installation was held at Kaphan's. The club has adjourned until September. OLD BUSINESS: 1. The baseball tickets (price $1.50) are sold out. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Nan is going on vacation for two weeks. Florence is Minutes--June 8, 1989--Page 3 Old Business--Continued also going on a trip. 2. The new Recreation Director, Lisa Davis, has reported for duty. 3. Joan was planning to include in the budget a 2-way radio for the City car. Fire Chief Stevenson told her that it has been ordered by him and Curtis Cooper as a surprise and it will be here in September. 4. Tommy received a x.04 per hour raise in the pay plan. Joan will try to get another raise for him in September.
