D. Wickerham Florence Worstell Senior Services Board met in the loggia of the Community Building. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Jane Breazeal at 3:30 p.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Jane Breazeal asked if all had read the minutes and were there any questions. The minutes stood approved. ANNOUNCEMENTS: The announcements were read by Joan Eccles. 1. Van tour of Retirement Facilities--Wednesday, July 19 and Friday, August 18 - 9:30-2 2. Selling Your Home without Stress Seminar - Thursday, July 27 - 10:30 to 1:00 3. Ice Cream Social - Thursday, August 3rd - 2-4 4. Baseball Game - Sunday, July 23 - 1:35 5. Dallas Trip - Tuesday & Wednesday, July 25-26 6. Galveston Trip - Saturday, August 5th MONTHLY REPORT: Joan gave the monthly report (attached). TREASURER'S REPORT: Randy Hardy gave the report. See attached. APAC REPORT: Mr. Wickerham said APAC has not selected a new person to head Minutes--July 13, 19e9--Page 2 Apac Report--Continued up the office; therefore, there is nothing special to report. MEALS ON WHEELS: Anna Lay Turner reported the Meals on Wheels had a new prospect for food - day old muffins, yogurt and salad. Anna Lay stated they were delivering to two new people with Aids. GARDEN CLUB REPORT: Florence Worstell reported the club would resume meeting in September. OLD BUSINESS: 1. Dottie Shaw complimented both Joan and Nan for all their hard work on the Hawaiian Luau. The center fed approximately 150 Seniors of which she collected $2.00 from each. The lady that lead the dancing agreed to return for a program in the fall. Jane Breazeal suggested the Board write to CITY CURRENTS expressing their appreciation to all the Volunteers. 2. Joan updated the Board on her visit to the City Council. She said they were very receptive to her reporting all the activities of Senior Services. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Joan said The University of Texas is sending two people to interview 85 year old women with good legs. They came to the Bingo Party and asked for ladies but no one volunteered. 2. Joan said there is a lady in deplorable condition who is writing checks for bills, but she does not have a checking account. Her Houston Lighting and Power bill has not been paid, and the City is threatening to cut off her water. Her house is filthy. The City called Joan. Dalia Stokes said Harris County could appoint a guardian. Adult Protective Services has the power to pursue the guardianship and a case worker was sent to the house and the lady was judged not ill enough to be committed. The lady is disturbing neighbors and asking for food. She is being taken to the Harris County Psychological Dept. 3. Alzheimer's patient - son called from South Carolina about his father who could not take care of his mother (the patient), and he is trying to find a care center. Lady is neighbor of Jane's. Pigeon Drop - the Houston Police Department has notified us that there is a black man taking women around town to withdraw savings and transfer CD's. 5. Scams - Crown Plumbing recently gave a bid of $600 to repair a hot water heater that was later repaired for $30. There have been many complaints on Crown Plumbing. The police report that the person following old people to rob them has been caught. b. Jane suggested Joan write a letter of appreciation to Elizabeth McRoberts.
