1. Dottie Shaw complimented both Joan and Nan for all their
hard work on the Hawaiian Luau. The center fed
approximately 150 Seniors of which she collected $2.00
from each. The lady that lead the dancing agreed to
return for a program in the fall.
Jane Breazeal suggested the Board write to CITY CURRENTS
expressing their appreciation to all the Volunteers.
2. Joan updated the Board on her visit to the City Council.
She said they were very receptive to her reporting all
the activities of Senior Services.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Joan said The University of Texas is sending two people
to interview 85 year old women with good legs. They
came to the Bingo Party and asked for ladies but no one
volunteered.
2. Joan said there is a lady in deplorable condition who is
writing checks for bills, but she does not have a
checking account. Her Houston Lighting and Power bill
has not been paid, and the City is threatening to cut
off her water. Her house is filthy. The City called
Joan. Dalia Stokes said Harris County could appoint a
guardian. Adult Protective Services has the power to
pursue the guardianship and a case worker was sent to
the house and the lady was judged not ill enough to be
committed. The lady is disturbing neighbors and asking
for food. She is being taken to the Harris County
Psychological Dept.
3. Alzheimer's patient - son called from South Carolina
about his father who could not take care of his mother
(the patient), and he is trying to find a care center.
Lady is neighbor of Jane's.
