SENIOR SERVICES BOARD
AUGUST 10, 1989
MEMBERS PRESENT:
Joan Eccles, Coordinator
Jane Breazeal, Chairperson

The Senior Services Board met in the loggia of the Community
Building.
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Jane Breazeal
at 3:30 p.m.
The roll was called by Jane Breazeal, and the minutes from the
last meeting were read and approved as read.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The announcements were read by Joan Eccles.
1. Van tour --August 18-- Lunch at Westbrae, 10--2:30 p.m.
2. Baseball game --Sunday, August 20 at 1:30 p.m.
3. Senior Dental Care or "Taming Wild Teeth" Thursday,
August 31 at 3:30 p.m.
4. Twelve Oaks Hospital Senior Club Luncheon Friday,
September 1 at 11:30 a.m.
5. New Parkinson's Foundation Exercise Classes begin
Thursday, September 7, 11--12:30 p.m.
6. Games Day Luncheon Wednesday, September 13, 10 a.m.
to 2 p.m.
7. Tyler Rose Festival Trip October 13 and 14.
MONTHLY REPORT:
Joan gave the monthly report. (See attached).
TREASURER"S REPORT:
Report, attached, was given by Randy Hardy.
APAC REPORT:
Mr. Wickerham said there was no activity from APAC.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Anna Lay Turner reported that vacations had cut down on the
number of meals which in turn make the drivers happy. She
reported there were two or three people who had wandered out
of their homes and were difficult to locate.
GARDEN CLUB REPORT:
Florence Worstell said their first meeting of the season would

be in September in the loggia of the Community Building. They
were seeking new members to join the group.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Joan has sent information on the Senior Services Center
to the City Currents.
2. The Dallas trip to see Rameses was a success with twenty--
three seniors making the trip.
3. There were fifty--seven seniors who made the Galveston
trip. Except for some difficulty driving the freeway
due to construction, the trip was enjoyable with a
good meal at the Galvez.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Joan was disappointed that the ukulele director had
resigned from the band. However, a lady from Hawaii
had visited the group and had decided to become the
director.
2. Joan has six cases of Ensure that Meals on Wheels can use.
3. Our fall brochure should be out in the near future.
4. Joan will be on vacation from August 23rd to September 4th.
5. There will be three new members for the board: Anna Lay
Turner, Marie Fish, and Dorothy Rieger.
6. Gene Hines submitted his resignation to the City Secretary.
He stated he had enjoyed his service while working at
the Center and he complimented Joan and her staff for
all their work during his term of service.
7. Florence Worstell moved that we take a bus to the First
Baptist Church'Christmas pageant. Randy Hardy seconded
the motion, and the motion carried.
8. Joan will go to Washington on October 10--11 representing
our Center in regard to the Warner Cable TV film contest.
The film has been selected as one of the top ten films.
The banquet will show all ten films. At this time we do
not know when the film will be shown on local television.
9. Dottie Shaw moved that we purchase a tape recorder to be
used at Board Meetings. Randy Hardy seconded and the
motion passed.
10. The swearing in of the Board will be on August 28th before
the City Council. Dottie Shaw was concerned that her
name was on the list since it was omitted last year.
11. Anna Lay Turner said the West University United Methodist
Church offered to assist participants of the Meals on
Wheels if they needed any help. No one has indicated
that help is needed.

The meeting adjourned at 4:15 p.m.
