Services, Group Allotment, Home Dental Services, Metropolitan
Ministries, and Community Development.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Anna Lay Turner gave an overview of this program. There are
presently twenty--two Meals On Wheels.. Her area covers about
98 square blocks while providing meals for as matey as thirty--
five people. Individuals are charged $2.50 per meal at a cost
of $2.36. All the drivers are volunteers. There are six
churches involved with this program. The Board consistsof
two people from each church plus Anna Lay. The churches pro-
vide the volunteer drivers. Anna Lay is responsible for the
planning, delivery, and banking. This local program is about
ten years old. The City of West University reimburses for the
five participants that cannot pay their own way.

MINUTES----September 14, 1989----page 3
NEW BUSINESS:
1. A total memorial of $200.00 has been raised for Tommy
of which we gave $150.00 to his church for their food
pantry. Marie Fish moved that we divide the remainder
between the Lupus and the Epilepsy Foundations. The
motion passed. Jane expressed our love for Tommy and how
helpful and thoughtful he was to our Senior Citizens.
2. Each Thursday the Parkinson's group meet at 11 a.m.to
exercise and have refreshments. Today there were twenty
six attending the session.
3. ADULT:
We have a lady in West University that is near ninety
years old who is blind. She stays in bed (dirty) most
of the time. There is a Spanish lady staying with her
to prepare her meals. The daughter lives with her mother
and evidently does not like her mother. There is no
evidence of physical abuse but the daughter does -refuse
Meals on Wheels. However, Joan has been able to get
nurses into the home. Joan said the daughter is polite
and is a school nurse. Joan is hesitant to call APS
since they charge for nurses going to the home once per
week.
4. The Thanksgiving meal will be given by the Bellaire
Honors. Dottie will be the host and Dorothy Rei (~r will
assist Dottie. Everyone expressed their appreciation to
these students for their contribution in making this
dinner possible.
5. Joan wants to have the Christmas luncheon at Saint
George's Church again this year. She has not made
arrangements with them as of this date. Last year
we had 250 that attended. The maximun number that our
facilities will hold is 175.A suggestion was made to
make people aware that we were giving the luncheon and
riot Saint George. All members of the board were in
favor of approaching Saint George for the luncheon.
6. The Bingo group is having a controversy over a grand-
mother having two daughters coming to the bingo games.
Since school has started this problem has been resolved
because the girls will be in school. Small children
should not attend.
7. Our next board meeting will be on October 9th.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m.
