who would get the money, where would we have the party,
and who would volunteer to assist with the party. The

Saint George Orthodox Church as we did last year.

given by the First Baptist Chruch. Tickets will
cost $12.00 which includes the bus transportation.
MONTHLY REPORT:
Joan gave the monthly report. (see attached).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Randy Hardy gave the report. (see attached).
APAC REPORT:
Mr. Wickerham said the meeting was held last Thursday. The
first hour the group heard mayor candidate Fred Hofheinz
expressing his views. They still do not have a director
and it will probably be after the first of the year before
a replacement is found. The Legislative Committee feels
any change in the catastrophic insurance is a long way off.
The committee will attempt to keep in touch with the local
people on this subject. The federal government will supply
computers to senior centers to better facilitate record keep-
ing. The fiscal year end was the end of September. There
were no new contracts approved with the city. Some work can
go on without a contract. Mr. Wickerham said there should be
more participation by Harris County including the City of
Houston. The meals provided are not being eaten by the people
that the food is meant to feed. Some of the areas are 100
percent Hispanic or a mix of two languages. This accounts for
some of the problem of food distribution.
MEALS ON WHEELS;
Anna Lay Turner said there were eight people in the hospital
this month that are normally served. Their money is in good
standing since the people that can pay are doing so. She also
said all their street routes are now on computer.
GARDEN CLUB:
Florence Worstell said the garden club had its first meeting
on October 24th. It was a covered dish luncheon. Curtis
Cooper from City Hall asked the club to plant flowers beside
the library. They will ask the Boy and Girl Scouts to help
with the work.
OLD BUSINESS:
Joan attended the Southwest Confence on Aging. She was warned
about seniors that sold their home by the sale and lease back
plan. A lady on Rice lost her home because she was out of the
house for more than thirty days.
Joan is to look into Source Line which isa free hook up with
our computer. It will assist in seeking services for the
seniors.
MINUTES--October 9, 1989---Page 3
S. W. Bell is looking for a senior center to install a free
computer hook--up between seniors and other seniors. You will
be able to computer talk to any senior in the United States.
They will supply a teacher from eight to twelve weeks. They
will keep the computer at our center at no cost to us. Each
senior will be charged $25 to join the network.
Joan attended a conference in Fort Worth on How To Set Up A
Senior Services In A Small Town. Joan had twelve people in
her session.
NEW BUSINESS:
Crisis Hotline is trying to set up a program here. Volunteers
are to come to this center to man the lines during certain
hours. A senior will call in when he needs help. Our group
felt we did not have the space not the personnel to facilitate
the program.
Our City Manager will come to the Centor to have a question
and answer session with our seniors.
Bingo is getting too large for our center. It will need to be
limited. Dottie says the center is also too noisy for so many
people. They have been having 53--57 attending each game.
ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
