SENIOR SERVICES BOARD
NOVEMBER 16, 1989

The Senior Services Board met in the-Loggia of the Community
Building.
CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Jane Breazeal
at 3:30 p.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The minutes were read, corrected, and approved.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The announcements were read by Joan Eccles.
1. Volunteer Luncheon - Friday, November 10, 12 noon.
2. "Depression: Define It - Defeat It" by Mental Health
Association, Friday, November 17, 10 a.m.
3. Fine Arts Museum van trip - Arts of China, Friday, November
17, 9:30 a.m.
4. Thanksgiving Day Dinner - 12 noon by the Bellaire High
School Honor Society.
5. Xmas Shopping van trips - Tuesday, December 5, 10 a.m. -
1 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
6. Xmas Lights bus trip - Wednesday, December 13, 7 - 10 p.m.
Cost j-s.$3.00 per person.
7. Xmas Pageant bus trip - First Baptist Church. Cost is
$12.00 per person. Sunday, December 10, 1:30 - 5:00 p.m.
8. Xmas Dinner Party - St. George's - Tuesday, December 19,
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

MONTHLY REPORT:
Joan gave the monthly report. (see attached).
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Randy Hardy gave the report. (see attached).
APAC REPORT:
Mr. Wickerham was unable to attend the last APAC meeting. He
reported that Kathy Whitmire had spoken before the group. They
were in the process of obtaining orders for the Thanksgiving
meal. Last year there were 2,500 volunteers who fed 5,000 people.
He expressed thanks to the Meals on Wheels program for getting the
food delivered.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Anna Lay said the Thanksgiving meal will be catered and will be
delivered the day before Thanksgiving. Due to the many tests that
people are taking, their delivery numbers are down. Many people are
not home for their meals to be delivered at this time.

OLD BUSINESS:
The Senior Net program can be set up in June. Southwestern Bell
has offered to help pay for the bill. If we decide to go with
Senior Net we will have to pay them a fee. Joan is to look into
alternatives.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Nan Merchant is no longer with us.
2. Sharon Reusser has taken Nan's place and is coming with
good credentials. She has a BS degree in geratology and
was an active director at Golden Age Manor.
3. Saint George has delivered Joan supplies for Thanksgiving
food boxes for four Seniors. Saint George is given a list
of suggested items for the boxes by Joan and she then
delivers the boxes to the Seniors.
4. Joan will have a week's vacation beginning November 20.
She has five weeks vacation in a year per her contract with
the City. Dorothy Reiger is to assist Dottie in the office
while Joan is away.

5. Joan is thinking of having a Volunteer of the Month who
would be featured in the Village Life. The article would
expand on what the Volunteer does for the Center and the
Seniors.
6. The week of December 6, M. D. Wickerham, Randy Hardy, and
Florence Worstell are to call on area merchants for pre--
committed gifts for Christmas gifts.
